Question Moving to Hyderabad on April 9th 2009

Hi Everybody,

I'm moving to Hyderabad on April 9th to start a new job and new life in India.

I'm 33 year old male, yes you guessed it, working in IT, with varied interests and hobbies, ie reading, swimming, surfing, movies, good food, drinking etc...

I am interested in meeting new folks and making some new friends so please say hi...

I am also interested in finding out anybody's ideas re. getting a house share... is that something that expat's do in India. I thought it would be a good way to meet people, make friends and share expenses...

Mostly for the social aspect really as I am moving out on my own and there is only one other expat in the company I will be working for and he's in another division...

Anyway would be great to hear from anybody who's got something useful to contribute or whatever...

Thanks

Hi!

We'll be moving to Hyderabad soon as well; in about 2 months. My husband will first spend around 1,5 month in Delhi for his work and then when he moved to Hyderabad, I'll join with our son.
Keep us posted about your move and we might see you around one day

Welcome to Indiamike!

Stay away from that Hyderabad IndiaMike crowd. They're evil I tells ya!
Just kidding. They are a great bunch of people and I missed their latest meetup yesterday. Check this thread for the next one: Hyderabad Meetups

I hope to be visiting Hyderabad again sometime in the next few months. Fingers crossed.

Hi,
I’m currently in Delhi and moving to HYD by this weekend. I’ll only be there for about 2 months, but let me know if you want to share. I’m not sure which neighbourhoods to look at as I’ll be working for BASIX in Koti.
Thanks,
Leslie

Clubs and groups in Hyderabad

There is an expat group that meets every Friday in Hyderabad. They can help you meet some of the other expats living in Hyderabad and introduce you to some of the other clubs and groups in town. The expats are the Twin-cities Expat Association... or better known as TEA.
I think you will be surprised how easy it is to make friends here.

Hi all Twin-cities expats and otherwise (except Billyshake )

I will be arriving in Hyderabad on May 12th for my 2-month summer vacation. Although, I won't be there all the time since this the time when I get to do all my experimental research work - so I will be coming back to IIT-KGP on May 27th and then going to Delhi on June 3rd for a couple of weeks, from thee to Portugal (hopefully) for a conference where I have been invited to give a talk and chair a session, back to KGP and then a week in Mumbai at TIFR followed by a week in Hyderabad and back to IIT-KGP. Something like that. Getting all of the train reservations has been challenging, but, I have been creative. For example, getting 2AC on the BBSR-Delhi Rajdhani is very difficult around May 31st, so I booked it for June 3 from Howrah to Delhi and will be a lab in Jadavpur area for June 1 & 2 and morning of 3rd. That way all my travel is paid for by my project funding!

I prefer train travel, especially 2AC since I can get to work on my research papers or read books. I have a MacBook and I love Kishore Kumar & Abhijeet songs - I have a collection of over 200 songs on iTunes that I am also downloading to my Nokia mobile phone - so I am all set!!

When I am in Hyderabad between May 12-27, how about a meetup? Where is the place that the ex-pats meet on the weekend - location and direction - I live in Habsiguda (just beyond Tarnaka).

Cheers

The Meet Up

The Meet Up is in Jubilee Hills. Just tell your driver Whisper Valley, when you get there tell the guard Walden Club he will direct you. It's a residential area with a private club.

Also the Hytea website should have directions or a contact that can help get you there.

Hope this helps.

Robyn

Hi People,

Its been so hectic here, I've hardly had time for my feet to touch the ground, finding somewhere to live, setting up my new department and generally adjusting...

I might possibly make it to the meetup thing this weekend if it's still happening...

I will PM some of you who sounded keen to make sure I know what's going on...

Cheers
