Moving to Hyderabad in three weeks
Hello all
I have been perusing the site for some time, and wanted to introduce myself, I am an Aussie, (from Rockhampton and lived in Brisbane and Canberra) have lived in the US for the last 10 years and am doing a short term assignment in Hyderabad for 6 months. So my three kids (ages 8, 6 and 3) and I will be leaving Virginia, USA on Jan 23rd. I have a furnished apartment already and just need to figure out any essentials that I may need to bring over for the kids (aside from bringing in some nice wines with my duty free allowance, techincally this is for me not the kids ) I guess I will buy bicycles for the kids over there so they can ride around the apartment complex. Also will buy DVD player over there, I had read that the Indian DVDs are region free so I should be able to bring my collection of region 1 DVDs over with me. (is this right?)Does anyone have any recommendations on other stuff I may need to bring over? I am not packing up my house here, so will not be shipping anything, other than just bringing in excess luggage. Thanks and Happy New Year everyone. Deanne |

Most DVD players being made today, and the past couple of years can seem to play any DVD Region, and a number or particular movie files too.
Basically, what you would take to India, without paying too much for freight, is what you'd take first if your house was on fire, and just basically tick the list off. When that list comes to, say, couch, I'm pretty sure you could stop before that and review your list, and you'll know what to take. Other than that, welcome to IndiaMike! |

You shouldn't need much, six months isn't that long after all. You ought to be able to buy anything you need in Hyderabad. Take a region 1 DVD to the shop with you, they ought to be able to hook it up to a display and confirm it works.
