Keifer Grains & or Kombucha Tea Hyderabad

Hello
Is there anyone who has keifer grains and or Kombucha Tea starter or scobe (sp?). We drink both Keifer and Kombucha tea in the states but my husband is having a hard time finding the starters so he can brew or make his own. If anyone would like to share or know where he can buy them locally the info would be appreciated.

Thanks Peregrine

I took my own kefir to India in liquid form, it survived the trip and dried it for the return trip back to UK. If you are now in India I suggest you get a friend to dry some and post it to you. 35mm film tubs are ideal for this purpose.

Kombucha. the drink is sold in shops in Pondy, a bit far from Hyderabad, but you might find a supplier in Auroville who can post the 'mother' to you.

I am still in the U.S. I tried to ship the liquid form to my husband in Mumbai through UPS and they told me that it would not clear customs unless my husband was able to get a waiver from the local health department.

Do you just let the grains air dry out?

Thanks Peregrine

Check out Doms keffir site . he is in OZ http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/~dna/kefirpage.html
tells you all you need to know about freezing ,drying etc

Suggest you do the drying or wait till you come and bring yourself. Dont declare on your immigration form that you have anything 'live'.

I regularly bring cheese, salami, as long as it is in an airtight container or shrink wrapped......... as of now no problems in coming immigration control. I have been doing that for more than a few years.
