Just Arrived

So now I am living in Hyderabad. I want to make a list of interesting things to do over the weekend. THis is my first time in India, so it seems that the amount of options I have are overwhelming. Suggestions?

You could check Hyderabad Meetups (scroll to the end of it for the latest) -- but it's not very active, I don't think. You could however try and get them going.

Outlook Traveller's are a good Indian guidebook series, and easily available on the ground, look for their Weekend Breaks From Hyderabad title (will probably have some tips within the city, too), http://traveller.outlookindia.com/bookhome.aspx -- but I've been told by locals even there just isn't so much to do in the vicinity, so they found this title disappointing. Still, give it a try. They're not expensive, either.

Check also http://hyderabad.burrp.com/.

Ask around what are good local (possibly editions of national) papers with cultural listings; this is often a read it in the morning, go in the evening kind of affair (i.e., stuff save for major events doesn't seem to tend to get announced far ahead, and it will mostly be an aficionados kind of thing, or so it seems); and expect more Indian classical than say pop and the likes in this field (+ movie listings). Generally lots of free such (non-major, and indeed classical, or perhaps Indian folk and the likes) events, btw (I mean not necessarily in H'bad, but generally all over the country, if there are any.)

Good bookstores can be a source of information on cultural events. Check with the tourist office, if there is one (I'd expect so).

Good luck with it (I was in fact told and by locals again that Hyderabad isn't exactly a highlight city by way of cultural performances and stuff. But, well, it shouldn't stop you from seeing what you can find )

nb If you're into bars, one of our esteemed Hyderabad members told me a local institution is Gokul's bar, this would be along the main road leading from Abids and the GPO (general post office) by a main circle there, down to the old town. (Sorry, I don't have my maps or anything here, can give directions one of these days if I think of it.) I never made it there in the end, regretfully.

I could give you directions to two other Abids joints, would again have to look them up though. You'd very likely find yourself the only foreigner there, mind. But I found them fun, one of them in particular. --> Ah, of course, I gave directions here and onwards on that thread: Cheap Hotels in Hyderabad. The latter two are very simple places, just to be clear (the one I liked best a little more so than the other).
