I Need Some Things: beauty products Hyderabad
Okay I have a silly question. Where can I get things like fingernail polish remover & polish, hairspray & other items like that. We are staying at the Novotel. So it would need to be someplace close.
Thanks Monica |

You should get most of those at any biggish supermarket.
Novotel is far off my beat, but if you see a Foodworld or Spencers or somesuch, it will do.

Do I just ask the hotel to call me a cab or one of those 3 wheeled cars? and how much do you tip? Do they have set rates? or do you negotiate? I feel like a child this is the 1st time I have ever been out of the U.S.A.
Thanks Monica |

I would ask the hotel if there is a supermarket around, or where the closest one is. (unless a member more familiar with that area replies).
If you feel adventures, walk out and take an autorickshaw (the 3 wheeled cab!). They will fleece you. They fleece everybody. As an indicator, travelling about 8km should cost you 40 rupees. If not, ask for a radio cab, 15 rupees a kilometer, airconditioned. The hotel should telephone. Coming back, take an autorickshaw. But do check where you want to go first with the hotel. PS: Tipping is not neccessary in any of those. |

I think I will go with the radio cab since I will have my kids with me. Who are you supposed to tip? I seem to be tipping everyone. Room service, maids service, laundry service, the face painter, and anyone else that does something for us. I do not want to offend or do something that is unexceptable.

Err, you do not tip in taxis or autorickshaws
As for the hotel, you can leave a little for the folks who clean the room when you finally leave the hotel, or room service when they deliver, but no other tipping is customary. |

moving in Hyderabad
Hi,
As like you I had moved into Hyderabad city for a year. And I liked the city though I'm originally from Mumbai city. The hotel u r staying is in HIGHTECH City alittle away from main city. I have few suggestions, as far as your daily needs are concerned you can find small departmental stores on your way to Banjara Hills or Jubilee Hills. There are few malls in the area and the place has lot of dinning & shopping options. You can also enjoy a nice walk in KBR Park. For the real Indian experience of shopping you can go to old city near Charminar. But as you have just landed in Hyderabad get used to people around. I found that people in Hyderabad are friendly and polite. So don't be scared of any thing which is unusual it may be usual way of life in India. All the best..... ![]() |

I keep saying this I know - but the one thing I would never worry about getting in India is any type of beauty product! Indian women are not only beautiful, they are immaculately groomed and always with nail polish, lipstick and kohl in place. Maybe ask one of the girls at the hotel for a good beauty salon.. it might be a good way to get out and about.

Peregrine,
Novotel is in/near Hitex. The best option for you would be to go to a super market called Q-mart in banjara hills. you may not get a hairspray in small supermarkets. its not a popular product in india. Q-mart has 2 floors. the lower floor is grocery and the uppe one is toiletries/home needs etc. http://www.metromela.com/index.php/v...ts/38/0/null/1 It will be max 10 mins drive from your hotel. |
