The BIG Move
Hi there!
My husband got a job in Hyderabad, so we will be moving there from South Africa shortly. What I would like to know is, what is the living expenses like in Hyderabad? Food prices, medical cost etc... We have two children (2.5 and 1)so we will be looking for a place with at least 3 bedrooms and a little garden (if possible, and because this is only for one year, we would like a furnished home. What is a good rate for renting a place like this in Jubilee Hills? Is there any other areas that is more or less the same as Jubilee Hills? Will we need our own car? Or can we make use of public transport? |

A furnished 3 bedroom apartment in Jubilee Hills can cost anywhere from Rs.40,000 - Rs.60,000. The apartment complex may/may not have a garden.
An independent house can cost around 80k to 100k per month. You would definitely need your own car. Public transportation is not very convinient. |

Budget for food will depend on how often you like to eat out and where. Whether you're a vegeterian / non-vegeterian etc
I found this earlier thread which discusses living expenses in Hyderabad, i.e. food, cars etc. Check it out: Relocating to hyderabad Someone also recommended looking at: www.fullhyderabad.com/ |

unless you want a house near the parliament building or something, 30 grand should be enough

Thanx Singsub. Appreciate the input. I heard alot about Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills? Is there any other gated communities where I can look for houses to rent? Preferably the place needs to be furnished as well. If my husband accept the offer, we will be there by end of July..

I am adding Hyderabad to the title to make it clearer.
Umm, CPF is Central Provident Fund: equal contributions from your employer and you. Surprising they are doing this with foreigners (assuming here) but am no expert. 30000 rupees a month wont get you too much anywhere, if an independent house. And not furnished for sure. You may have to look beyond Jubilee Hills, or maybe not. Not many gated communities there anyway. A small independent house may be possible, almost. Banjara Hills is highly overrated, and getting more crowded and noisy by the day. May have been a good option a decade ago; in any case, if work is at Hitec City or beyond (where it it, anyway?), Jubilee Hills (or even further) is a better option. Depends where the schools (if required) are, as well. |

thanx capt and Singsub,
Ok, the company is in Madhapur, not sure if this is close or beyond Hitec City??. Will properly look for a international pre-school group as they are still very young (eldest is 2years and 8months and the youngest is 13months). Ok, so 30 000 won't do the trick, what can I budget for a 3bdr house, little garden (if possible) and it must be furnished??? I've got no idea. And same with food, I guess we won't eat out that much,(will need a babysitter for the children), so we will mainly cook at home. Any ideas? |

If Madhapur, stay at Jubilee Hills if you can, else look around Madhapur.
I would think a small three bedroom independent furnished (decently, plus airconditioning) will cost you at least twice as much and even more. Look up 99acres.com indiaproperties.com magicbricks.com keeping in mind that people ask for sometimes 25/30% more online, and also keeping in mind that unless they say so, the house is unfurnished Browse the Hyderabad and expat forums here, unless already have. Fair amount of info. |
