hi there,
I hope somebody can help me with the following questions please? How much will we have to pay for cable tv in hyderabad? Is there any secondhand baby shops around where I can purchase car seats for the children, as it will cost me a fortune to ship them there or put them on a plane... Will it be possible to rent a car in Hyderabad for a year? If everything goes according to plan, we will be arriving in Hyderabad on the 28th of August 2008. thanx! |

Cable tv, for a dish perhaps 1000/2000 rupees upfront and 300 a month, they keep changing plans.
Secondhand car seats are very unlikely because hardly anybody uses them. Car... sure, it will be possible, but it will cheaper to buy and sell, or lease. (I don't know anything about leasing, but I believe it is possible) |

i won't use a car seat for my six year old although she is ofcourse using it here...i just know that in India they don't even wear seat belts much - baby car seats are practically non existant.
i am bringing the infants car seat for my new baby though - in case i need to drive i can at least bring it along safely ![]() ar you sure shipping stuff will be expensive? i have an offer for shipping it by sea and it's pretty decent. 137 euros per cubic meter or a metric ton - which ever comes first. |

Car seats...
Hi there,
There are now a few Mothercare stores in India (UK baby shop). Apparently the Chennai one has car seats (amongst other things like travel cots etc). Don't know about Hyderabad, but it would be worth finding out. You can find the international section on the Mothercare website - but I haven't managed to get anyone in the Chennai branch to reply to any emails. (Mr4 went into the Chennai one, to check it out. They told him that they can order things as well, if they don't have them in stock). Having said all this, we are taking ours out with us. Mr4 took our son's booster seat with him already, and we'll be bringing the other one when we go in a couple of weeks. BA say on their website that you can take a child car seat in addition to the usual luggage allowance. Don't know if other airlines do this, but that might be helpful. Hope this helps. best, 4gotoindia |

Bringing car seats: make sure to get the sort that can be attached using standard seat belts. Any but expensive imported cars here are unlikely (I'd have thought) to have any of the fancier fittings.
Good for Hyderabad on the seat belts! In Chennai, most such rules are totally ignored. (Maybe they'll notice, one day, that back-seat passengers, in an accident, can kill the front-seat passengers).

i guess things have changed then since i last lived in b'lore 5 yrs back
![]() i'll never forget how we were driving around on a bike with a small baby - none of us wearing helmets. Something just not imaginable here...lol. When in Rome, do like Romans do...hehehe. Most cars didn't even have seat belts! But great that you can baby car seats them in Hyderabad. I am sure there is not a thing you can't get there...am i right? I remember Hyderabad very vaguely...my hubby it seems found a flat we'll rent...he was explaining it's situated somewhere behind Life Style store (is there more then one Life Style store in Hyd?) Any input on how that area is? how is that area actually called? |

There is only one Lifestyle mall, to the best of my knowledge
The area behind it is Kundan Bagh, generally speaking. I hope it is nowhere near the main Greenlands road, will be quieter. Decent area, some apartments are pretty quiet, centre of the city. |

hi,
thanx for of your input. Shipping costs from South Africa to Hyderabad is very expensive. Must still get a few other quotes as well. But we will definitely need to ship some stuff. See you in a few weeks! ![]() |
