HYD is now my home
Greetings fellow expat community, particularly those stationed in Hyderabad. I'm starting out an 18-24 month stint here with my firm and am loving it so far. I'm from Chicago and have set myself up in an apartment in Jubilee Hills.
Great postings all, i've been lurking for a day or two gleaning information and hope to contribute once I get some experience under my belt. I'm most of the way through the process of making a home out of an unfurnished apartment...so I feel like i've learned a thing or two already...heh. |

Thanks Indo and Dec31. I've taken care of #1, so 6 more to go. Is Kallu from fruit? I've had some of the juice they produce by grinding up sugar cane (at least thats what it looks like), it was pretty tasty...although I wasn't sure whether it would mess with my system. I was OK in the end.

hey Rim,
I just told u a few places of interest, there are a lot more infact.Well kallu is extracted from palm trees. It real fascinating to watch those guys climb up the palm(usually date palms ) trees for the extract. Its pure white in colour but as I have said please be careful and have it only when you go to a village. In the cities its adulterated !! cheers !!! |

I may be off the mark here. But isn't drinking adulterated
Kallu dangerous for health. OP, I advice you to stay away from that stuff unless you are absolutely sure about what you are doing. Enjoy your stay in Hyderabad! |

Welcome to Hyderabad
I moved here from Australia last October so am a little ahead of you. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions, I am also in Jubilee Hills. I have eaten my way around this city from day 1, so can probably pass on some good eating tips and perhaps some other contact points for expats here, such as Hyderabad Hash House Harriers and Hyderabad TEA (http://www.hytea.org/). Also buy your monthly WOW magazine from the supermarket (Qmart) or book store and see what's on and what's opening up. Every month there are new places opening - it is an exciting city that way. Cheers Anna |
