Hi

I currently live and work in London. I've recently been offered a job to work for a large animation compnay in Hyderabad. The contract will be for a year. I'm very excited about going to India, as this will be the first time I'll have lived overseas. So it will be a complete adventure.

I'm a 30 year old single male, and was wondering if there are things I should know about dating women in Hyderabad? cutural or otherwise.

i wholeheartedly recommend that you contact indiamiker Billyshakes. he is an american working in hyderabad, and knows about the local scene.

How do I go about trying to get in contact with BillyShake? I've been to his page but I can cant see anywhere that will allow me to get intouch with him. Pressing the instant messaging link just takes me to BillyShake's page again.

you have too few posts to be able to instant message anyone. mods please help this guy out. once he gets in touch with billy these two will hunt women in hyderabad together and we will most likely get another awesome thread about their escapades in the backdrop of the charminar/lumbini park/golkonda fort/medina bazar.

I'm a westerner myself so I'm ready to be corrected by Indian members but here goes.

First let's get the old it's impossible to break through as a white male into the bastions womanhood in India.
Family tradition, arranged marriages and a seperate sex society makes this impossible.

It's not but the above rings true in so many situations as to make it a rule for the faint hearted.

Don't dispair, locate the right social gathering and it's gonna be the same old square dance males (and females) go through the world over.
For sure it's true that these situations are not as visible as in your own home town; in more liberal societies, shit there I go falling into the same trap........

But guys are dating girls all over India even as I write that much I know to be true (don't tell their dads)

Based on second hand experience it's going to be hard going, as women, even the sexy metrolites have a lot of crosses to bear, family, peer criticism, reputation (it still matters big time in India)to name just a few.

Casual dating is still not a morm I would say but it seems to be gathering pace as financial security amongst the young people of India allows for more independance.

Several friends have dated Indian women in Delhi, Kerala and Goa (very liberal) but like so many of life's relationship's they fell into it rather than actively looked for it.

So it can happen for you. Now you just need to track down the "hunting ground" in which I'm afraid other people are better qualified to advise.
