A request from a non expat

I do not know where else to turn, so I write my request in this forum.

More than 2 years ago, we spent a week in Hyderabad.

What really made our trip, was our taxi driver, he just happened to be driving, the first time we called for a taxi. He drove for us every day, a very pleasant young guy with a good sense of humour, knew the city in and out, and walked with us through several markets, so we did not get lost.

We are still in contact and we would very much like to help this guy finding a better job. I have been recommending him as a good driver on different forums, but as we all know, not many tourists go to Hyderabad.
So if any of you know of a company or anyone that needs a private driver, we ask you to check this guy out
As I mentioned we used him every day for a week and not once did he show up to late, always 5 - 10 min. ahead of time. Oh yes, one time he was 20 min. late, but he called to tell us well in advance.

His name is Susheel, works for a taxi company: Apple Cabs 55992225 – 55992226
His mobile number 09701024420

Maybe the next time you need a taxi, you could call for Susheel and see for yourself..

Hope I am not misusing this forum.

Best regards
Kirsten, Copenhagen

Thanks, first thought me 7 years, no, but then I saw the small print to the left.
I have been using this fourm, but not given much back.
Steven read your rewiev on Malayalam Resort, we have had the same experience, only that time we were told it was a funeral in the family.
We really liked Hyderabad. did not feel so much like tourists.

Hi, thanks for your interest.
Susheel speaks quite good English, at least we thought so, but then we do not come from an English speaking country.

We spent many hours with him and talked about a lot of things, we really liked his humour, similar to ours - would not call him a typical Indian

Thanks for this Kirsten. Really interesting as I am about to go to Hyderabad for 5 weeks to do the research for my undergrad dissertation. I am looking into the out-of-town communities like the gated ones and have been recommended to find myself a friendly, reliable driver out there.

Do you think that once I am in the city I go to the central office for Apple Cabs and ask for him, or best to try and contact him in advance? Do you have an email for him?

Many thanks

Hi weens 87, I am so pleased that you are thinking about having Susheel as your driver.
We have just spoken to him on the phone, not so easy, telephone numbers in India seem to change all the time, so the information I have given here is not correct any more.
We found the new number for apple cabs on the internet, called, and Susheel answered the phone, quite a coincidence, good talking to him again.

Here are the new numbers:

Susheel: +91 9989801903

email: neo_andrisonn@yahoo.co.in

Apple cab: +91 40 65992225

It is up to you, if you want to send him an email in advance, no need for booking, maybe you want to meet him first.

I think you will like Hyderabad, an easygoing city with nice people (not many tourists so no touts and the hassle you experience other places)

Have a pleasant trip, would love to hear if you end up with him as your driver.

Good to hear. India and its people have a part in our hearts.
If this is your first trip to India be prepared to either love or hate, not so much in between.
We have told Susheel to check his email now and then, sometimes he seems to forget.

Hi Kirsten

I met Susheel yesterday. As soon as I got an Indian phone I gave him a call, and he seemed to know about me through you and my email. He was very efficient and came to meet me where I was staying (he even got there first, as I got a little lost on my way back!). He seems a lovely guy. We organised for him to take me out of town last night and then pick me up. However, both times he sent another driver and not him; neither of whom spoke English and the return journey was really quite scary as the guy had no idea where he was going, so we ended going through all the back streets with no lighting whatsoever!

I understand that it was all arranged on the day and so could not expect him to be free to do the driving and so will try him again. But did you find this happened at all, or did you always have Susheel? Can you remember what he charged? He expected me to know from chatting with you! I think he quoted about Rs 1200 a day, or otherwise on the meter.

Thanks a lot

Hi Weens.
Sorry for this late reply, we have been away for the weekend.
I do not understand, about sending you other drivers, he is just employed as a driver or at least he was at that time.
You should tell him, you only want him to drive, and ask him if his boss made other arrangements.
Sushyeel just happened to be the driver the first time we called for a taxi and we had him every day for 8 days.
From my memeory Rs 1200 sounds OK for 8 hours and 80 km, does the car have AC?
So you are already in Hyderabad, I had no idea it was this quick.
Glad to hear you liked him, but I am sorry he did not show up himself.
Hope you get this worked out. Kirsten

Hi Kirsten
Thanks for this. I tried him again this morning, saying I only wanted him to drive. He said OK but then said he would send a driver..! He sent the same guy as the other night who took an hour 30 for a 15 minute journey, no seat belts, no A/C etc...I had to laugh really, it was so ridiculous!! He must have asked 30 people where to go, despite having been there 4 nights previously! I have a feeling I may have to give up, which is a shame as he seems a nice guy and the kind of person I need here for transport as all the options I have tried so far have ended up being disasters.
Will let you know if I can face it again and end up with a success story!
