Smile A new beginning??? - offered a position in Tirupati

Hi all

My fiance has just been offered a position in Tirupati for 3 years and we have so many questions and need some advise.

Is it normal to offer relocation package?
What are the costs involved with shipping our home to India from the UK any advise on duty very welcome?
Do we take furniture electrical goods?

What is the average cost of apartments/houses to rent in this area?
Also what are good areas to live here as I can only find advise on the big cities?

Sorry we are totally green here and any other advise would be very much appreciated.

Hi sophiedaisy

I've moved your thread to the "Moving to India?" forum - there's no "Moving to Tirupati" thread, so I've put it with the Hyderabad sub-forum, and changed the title a bit - hopefully you'll get some helpful replies here

And welcome to IndiaMike

Hello Sophie,

Welcome to IM.

I'm from Hyderabad. lil strange for me hearing someone being moved to Tirupati all the way from UK.

Ok firstly Tirupati is a pilgrimage city and one of the Biggest temples of (Lord Venkateshwara)in the country is situated there and lakhs of people visit the temple from different parts of the country everyday. The temple is located on the hills but as far as the city is concerned it's more or less like a tourist spot with lot of temples around. It's not one of those fancy cities to live in. Hard to think for someone who's moving there all the way from UK. Hyderabad would be a best option if you have to choose as it's one of the best cities in the country. The journey from Hyderabad to Tirupati by flight would be 1-1/2 hours and 12 hours by train.

Not sure about shipping goods from the UK. Sounds tough and a very costly affair.

> If you have proper converters electrical goods should work fine but not all i guess?

> No clue about the cost of an apartment there but should be easy on you.

> Would be a task getting things you need easily there as i mentioned above it's not one of those major cities.

> Hardly find expats there. Language would be a concern too.

I visit the place once / twice a year for 2-3 days. Lot more to pen down but it's already 1 am so crashing'. If you have any more questions do post 'em! I'll try getting some info till then.

Any info on the company ? job offered ?

Speak soon !

Thanks
Sudeep

All electrical goods from UK will work in India. Some of them might not work for as long, given the major ups and downs of Indian voltage. My Bosch washing machine was destroyed by a rat.

Was quite surprised to see someone moving to Tirupati. Actually was curious what kind of industry or role you are in to make this move?

Tirupati is a Major pilgrim town in Andhra Pradesh and sees on average about 80000-100000 people visiting daily. The town itself has a population of about 500000, which looks much bigger because of the pilgrim influx.

It is a major Educational center and has a small industrial sector. It is close to Chennai, so moving home in a container is possible. It is a very dry, hot place that gets really worse in summer. Don't know whereabouts is work, so any advice won't be perfect. But stay closer to work or if you can slightly outside the town to avoid the huge traffic issues most of the year.

Thank you Karthikvit

Sorry it has taken me a long time to respond but I've been really busy getting married....lol

We are leaving the UK at the end of this month and I am still concerned but thanks to your advise I am starting to feel better.

Who are the best companies to approach once in Indai for Internet and statellite?
Are the good areas you mentioned close to the centre of Tirupati?... because I'm a small town woman and not used to lots of noise and traffic...silly question I know...lol

Which City is closest to travel too...Chennai or Bangelore?....I know Chennai is closer but in Km butare the roads better to bangelore?...I have been advised that both will take approx 4 hours.

Are roof terraces easy to come by? or is the best thing to rent a house...As i will be spending alot of time at home, I would prefer some outdoor space.

The post is a investment casting foundry based in GAJULAMANDYAM, RENIGUN.
Gowri Ventures Pvt Ltd

Is beer and tabbaco easily available...prefer imported?

I would appreicate any other advise you can give.

Once again thank you

Bangalore is around 5 or 6 hours away from Tirupati by road. There are regular A/C buses plying between Tirupati and Bangalore. There used to be a flight between Bangalore and Tirupati (two years back, Kingfisher Airlines), don't know the current status. However, there are direct flights to Hyderabad. Triupati is a small city famous for Blaji Temple, its not so cosmopolitan like bangalore. You might face language barriers, the local language spoken in Telugu. Summers are hot. Broadband connectivity is available, there are many operators like airtel, reliance, bsnl etc. There are super markets. I have no idea about housing (only visited, never lived in Tirupati) but the rentals may be around INR 5000 per month. You might need to learn Telugu language. You may or may not find expats in Tirupati. Alhocol and tobacco are available in Tirupati. However, alchohol and tobacco are not available and not allowed in Tirumala Hills where the Balaji Temple is located.
