Relocating to goa
Hi Tufty
Thanks for your quotes. You were a real help. Myself, my husband & 4yr old daughter are shifting base from Delhi to Goa(Panjim) for 3 yrs. I am a little worried about my daughter's schooling. If I get her admitted to Sharda Niketan or Manovikas & shift back to Delhi after 3 yrs, will the curriculam be valid in Delhi. Also what is the official age of entry into formal schools for kids, is it 3 yrs or 4 yrs? Please help. Last edited by machadinha : Dec 13th, 2007 at 19:35. Reason: removed full quote |

Hi Tufty,
I was pleased to see your positive relocation experience. We are a UK based family and want to relocate to Goa. We would like to ask you a few questions on schooling property etc. I couldn't find a PM option on your thread can you kindly PM me so that we can communicate further. |

Moving to Goa
Hi Crispy, we are very settled here now, and incredibly happy. My daughter is loving her school and has made many friends there. I feel happier and more comfortable about living here with a child than I would living in the UK. Papers of course report what is happening in countries, but I wouldn't like to say how much exaggeration is put on certain issues. It is like anywhere, there are good sides and bad sides.
There are a couple of very good English Medium schools in the South of Goa: Manovikas and Vidya Vikas. My daughter is at Manovikas. It is Delhi board which means they do ICSE exams although you may want to look at whether your child will be able to go on to higher education in the States if he or she so desires. The qualifications they receive here don't automatically convert to qualifications recognised by the university schemes in the UK. I think (although I haven't done any research on this yet) that there is a conversion course of a year or something that then would allow them to study in their 'home' country. I don't know how it affects the States. There is another school which I hear is very good in the North of Goa called Sharada Mandir School. My daughter has a much freer way of life here and there is a lot of emphasis on family and community. Part of the reasons for moving here included a better lifestyle and education for our daughter, which we feel we are getting. Which part of Goa are you moving to? Is it long term, or just a temporary move? Good luck! |

Mod Note: You need a few more posts, Tufty (I think a total of 10) and then you can PM. So if you can help out with some other threads, with information and build up your post count then you will be able to PM. It will come automatically when you click on your Avatar, top left of post.

Hi, I am afraid you are not allowed to PM until you have had 15 posts (I think). This is done to avoid spam.
I am also settled here. Life is great, we love it. All the negative stuff in press tends to pertain to the tourist areas on the coast. Just a few km land inwards and life is bliss. |

Birds is right, it is better to avoid settling in the mega touristy areas as it does not feel like a natural way of life, as during season you have lots of weird and wonderful tourists, shops, touts, tat... and off season you are left with shuttered shops and ghost towns. It is great living within a community that is always living there so you integrate fully and have a wonderful belonging feeling. ![]() |

Don't know whether the school has a good record in sports. You can check out the fees here,
