Moving to Goa...How Can I Find a Flat?

Hi.

I am in India for a year (with a 5 year visa) doing my PhD field research and am looking to base myself somewhere to write on and off and do darkroom work (brought my enlarger with me) for the year. I'll be travelling to the field (Vidharba region of Maharashtra) regularly, but would like a nice place to come back to on and off...to write a bit, restrategize, and enjoy myself.

I've heard that one can find a nice place by the beach in Goa for around 10000 a month. Is this true? All I really need are security (I also freelance as a filmmaker/photographer and have a lot of gear), the knowledge that I can get clean water when I want, and to be as close to the sea as possible. It's just for me, not looking to share.

Does anyone have any good leads on how one could start this search, and where in Goa is best suited? I am past the hardcore partying stage, did that in Goa years ago...am looking for a chilled out place where I can work, have a bit of fun. But really, I just want a quiet place to set myself up.

Any ideas very much appreciated..

Thanks,
Rana

Get yourself to Patnem beach just south of Palolem, find Jairam(he has a restaurant on the beach so he's easy to find) He has a small house to rent only a stones throw from the beach. Failing that there are numerous other possibilities in The Palolem/Colomb/Patnem area!!

Not quite so close to the beach this time in Palolem ask for Jan Miguel Fernandez. (ask at the Sun N Moon resturant, they'll point you in the right direction say Derek & Ilse sent ya!!) I rent a comfy place from this guy for the last few years!! One thing if your going to have a lot of expensive gear lying around I suggest buying a steel chest or wardrobe. Theft is apparent along Goa's coast!!

Thee are loads of options so ask around and I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for. You have an advantage in that your looking for a year rental which often helps!!
