Moving to calangute/baga area - couple of questions

Hi all,

I am a young female and am moving to goa for one year (fingers crossed - entry visa pending...) in august. Have a few queries mainly re cost of living (again I know... I'm sorry). I spent a month in goa last year but was staying with friends. This time round I am going to need to find my own place. I do not really want to be on the main touristy drag but do need to be within a 20 min cycle of Baga. Any hot tips for where might be a good place to start my search?

Also, as far as price goes - I would like to find somewhere for under 9,000 rupees - a simple 1 bed place with an okay kitchen area/furnished/no AC...sound reasonable?

Also, I know the expat community in goa tends to be a bit older - are there many long termers in their 20s?

Think that's all for now.

Thanks minmo

You should go and check out the bulletin board at the entrance of Luma Supermarket in Calangute on the mainroad. You will find several landlords advertising 1 bedroom apartments available for rent/lease. Most of these apartments are furnished. You can also check the classifieds in the local newspapers.

You will not find very many young Europeans staying long term in Calangute. There is not much to do in Goa during the off season.

Thanks so much - really useful info. Yeah, I know Goa is pretty dead out of monsoon (I was there in august last year)but I kind of like it - apart from having mouldy clothes because there was nowhere to dry them...

Leaving wardobes open and fans on helps a little.

Hi Minmo,

Have you moved to Goa? How is it going?

What you have done is exactly what I want to do! I've been to Goa twice and have fallen in love with the place. I'm a female in my twenties too. I really want to spend some time (if not move) in Goa living by myself so wanted to see how you're finding it.

I am thinking of coming over at the end of this year (if I can hold out for that long!) and do some work with a NGO for a couple of months. I originally wanted to come for a year, but having just started out at a company in London I'm kind of tied in at the moment.

Would love to hear back from you with all your experiences and advice. I'm new to this website and cannot see the private messaging function, but please do message me when you get the chance.

Sara.
