Hi all, I am new to this site so please bear with me if things come across wrong.Im considering living in Goa for 6 months October- April with my husband & 10 year old son.We will be living off of the rent from our house in the UK- approx £500 per month.would this be enough to rent a small house & buy food ? My brother has visited Goa lots of times & says this is plenty but he usually stays in beach huts etc. Any advice on the cost of living would be very much appreciated. Thanks Nikki

| I would think it will be enough, but it depends on where you rent a house, how big, and the standard of living you want to maintain. But, if it is just 'rent and food', surely, yes. Upmarket posh houses can be expensive, though. You can get a rough idea of rentals from sites like www.indiaproperties.com www.magicbricks.com www.99acres.com keeping some leeway for haggling.

Actually 500 GBP would be quite sufficient(Although with appreciating Rupee you have already lost out about 5% of that in last month!!!) You can rent out an apartment in a relatively quite area and can also hire a two wheeler for a month. You would need to haggle quite a bit but there are many people staying in Goa for 5/6 months and as far as their feedback go, this amount would be more than sufficient for basic stay, food and a bike. Have a great stay...

Ya roads in Goa are not really that wide..but the villages where you would be staying...i.e. area around good beaches et al, there is not too much of traffis...so that would not be a problem at all... cheers...

A bit mental? How much experience do you have of weaving through the oncoming traffic, on the wrong side of the road?
