Looking to Move to Goa

Due to potential changes in my marital status, I am looking to move to Goa longterm. First of all to clear my head (No Drugs for me), then to get involved with the expat community.

Can anybody suggest a particular area to rent cheaply in, Guest house would be fine? I have heard that Arambol might possibly suit what I am looking for.

How much money per month would I likely need to live Happily on?

If anybody would like to make any suggestions or have any advice I would be eternally grateful.

Bertie

Living in Goa

Hi Bertie

I have recently been thru a divorce myself and have just bought an apartment in Candolim. How long are you staying in Goa for? Remember a 6 month visa at the end has to be renewed. You do this by leaving India for a day. Then coming back in with a new 6 month visa. It is cheap to live in Goa as long you don't go drinking on the town to drown your sorrows. What sort of budget were you thinking of?

Regards

Smile Budget to stay for 6 months

Hi Steve

thanks for the reply. I was hoping to be able to live on about 60-70,000 rupees a month for a bout 6 months. Not sure if this would be enough?

I have never been to Goa before but have friends who have and feel that I would fit into the way of life there for a while, or maybe knows if I am lucky a lot longer.

I didn't know it was so easy to just up and move to India.

Is it really? Or do you just get a ten year visa and keep renewing it?

thanks. Amrita

Hi Bertie,

My partner and I are also interested in moving to Goa, we have been twice before and it is a wonderful place.

I am also looking for some help and ideas on the logistics of moving out, looking into buying a place etc and how we could continue to make an income once we were there.

There are some really overdeveloped parts of Goa like Candolim and Baga which is a shame. I also get a feeling that many people either expats or native Goans are worried about the effect of so many people wanting to move there on the local economy, the housing market etc. Goa certainly is changing pretty fast.

We would be very interested to follow your progress and how easy you have found it to find a place, how you have integrated into the expat and local community etc.

Please note that Bertie started this thread on November 1st, 2004 and has not been active since 1 week thereafter.

You're probably best off starting at the ongoing Foreign owned property in Goa, (part Two) and similar threads.

This thread closed as it's mighty old.
