Are you there for long haul ? If yes, go for a Board Band connection.....
If not all mobile phone companies have Data Cards (USB Dongles)...

I applied for BSNL broadband in February. They told me I'll get it in.............November. Airtel do not cover Goa. In a word, internet is cr@p here. Various companies supply the USB but coverage is not 100%. they need to check your address.

Broadband
We have just got back from Goa and can confirm the internet connection seems painfully slow compared to the speeds we get in the uk. It is possibly down to the computer but more likely down to the connection speed. The computer used worked with a USB dongle as the house didn't have a phoneline.
It may be that the hard wiring of the phoneline will enable faster access and download speeds. Also please bear in mind the packages available, they invariably will not be unlimited usage as we know it. My suggestion would be not to tie yourself into a long term contract as hopefully things will improve... in the meantime try Indian Broadband Forum. |

Any updates on this? I am travelling to South Goa (Patnam/Palolem) in December 2009 & want to maintain a web site & blog while I'm there. USB Dongles preferred if available.

Broadband On USB Modem.
after much speculations a prominent telecom company tata has finally launched Broadband over USB modem(Wireless) known as Tata Indicom Photon Plus. Its basically An EVDO connection which works on CDMA 2X technology giving a very good speed. right now i tried using it in Calangute and panaji area and it was working nice still have to try it in south goa and all. But Official announcement may be done on 30th of sep for Major parts of Goa and all the beaches.
This connection is much easy to get costs only 3500 rupees for getting the modem and monthly charges according to your postpaid plan you opt for based on your DATA usages. I am using the same and CLients like Skype, secondlife etc are running fine. I hope it marks the start of a hasslefree internet in a beach Heaven like Goa. ![]() |

I looked at Tata-Indicom prices/availabilities a couple of months ago and it seems you have to have an address in India, is this so? I had hoped to just buy a HUAWEI USB stick/modem and slot in a pre-paid SIM card just as I do with my unlocked second phone when I come to Goa. Top up the same way. What do you think? If you are staying in goa then rent agreement papers will do good for the connection. I will be definately updating about south. But i think that it is also working there as from 24th they have carried out a soft launch of the technology for checking out bugs if any in the system all through GOA.Buying a HUAWEi USB Stick won't help as the whole system works on the ESN Number system i.e there isn't any R-UIM SIM involved even if there is a slot for the same. Non-RUIM based programmed device is provided to customers. Official announcement is still waited. I got my Connection from outside the state and here its on roaming.they havent started selling it as of now .And there is no roaming charges involved. If you need any other information you can give me a post. ( I got the connection from outside of GOA and i pay the bills online so no hassles) Papers wont be a problem as two dats back i took a mobile connection and surprisingly, a local address proof wasnt needed they just needed an id and i just gave told them where i was living thats it. ![]() |

You won't get Photon everywhere. They come and test the signal before installing.

Which service provider are we talking about? Not this one I take it: Tata Photon Which is not in Goa at all according to their web site. Thanks, I think I may just bring an unlocked mobile phone, buy a local SIM and use the phone data service to connect to my Laptop. Can you recommend a SIM that will allow phone calls in India and also a reasonably priced internet data service? Regards, Nico M |
