Goa - Re Visa's & Renewing

Hi

X visa's are not being issued at the moment, this is not a problem if you are on holiday, but if you want to live in Goa more permenently you are now restricted to a maximum of 180 day. Can anyone tell me if you have to come back home to the UK to renew your visa or can you renew in a different country ie Thailand, Sri Lanka etc? Also has anyone recently renewed their visa in the UK etc, if so how long have you been granted. I renewed my visa last August and was granted 1 year tourist visa but stamped a maximum of 180 days.

Many thanks

You can get a tourist visa in Sri Lanka, Thailand etc. But if you have a 1 year visa issued in August, why do you want a new visa? I assume that the visa is multiple entry?

That was the information I was looking for. It appears that the one year visa is for validity not for duration of stay just as my 10 year visa is only for 180 days of saty at a time. The OP should have no difficulty making the time honored visa run to another country. Takes about 5 working days. However, if the validity still has life remaining it should be possible to get a border guard's cooperation to sign exit and re-entry for the remaining period. No guarantees at all on this but one old friend told me of this. Going further into the shadow realm it might be possible to get a state FRO office to cooperate. Would be interesting to try and kindly report back..

I think people like the USAians, who have ten-year tourist visas, really do leave the country and return.

Unless, of course, there is something they're not telling us

I had a 1 year x in 2005 extended in March 2006. I was just given a 6 month tourist in London with 180 days restriction. Pointless as I have already done 19 months continuos.

There's not much to add. What did you have in mind? They've tightened up to stop anyone doing the 183 days to obtain a Residential Permit. Things should be clarified in May after the elections. Could get worse, I suppose.

The elections being held in May are for the Goa state assembly, not for the Central(Federal) Government and as such there will be no impact/effect on the issuing of visas.

Hi Anders

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have a 1 year tourist visa which runs out August 07, will be using it again for the end of March but want to come out again Aug/Sept, hoping to do more than 6 months. When I applied for the visa last year, I asked for residency, hoping for an x visa, having purchased a property in Candolim, or so I thought! Up until then 1, 2 & 5 year x visas were being issued if you had a sale agreement and inward remittance certificate! Lets hope that after the elections in May something will be put in place for all of us stuck in the middle of a purchase ie paid our money and cannot get our deed or residency.
