Hi Flower,

Welcome to IM.

There are schools where they follow an American or European curriculum and where most kids are foreigners or from Indian parents with a foreign outlook. In Nagoa there is a European school and I believe there is one more (both in Bardez, North Goa). I believe one of these schools is set up by foreigners.

I have no need for childeren’s schools so I do not know much but tomorrow I will meet people with school-going-children so I can ask.

I noticed your location in Japan. I know from some Japanese friends in Delhi and Bangalore that their biggest difficulty with living in India is food. So, if you are Japanese, you may want to bring lots of Japanese food because you can not get any of that here in Goa.

Let me know if you need more info on Goa.

Post Schools in Goa

Hello Flower,

As promised I spoke with people who have school going children and have found several options. There is no real international school but the ones below have a European approach or follow an European curriculum. Some apparently have a few western teachers.

I am not sure whether the spelling of all names is always correct. However, I hope it will give you a start.

Nisha School
Location: Porvorim
From 2 years old to 7
Has a very, very good name but few places and is difficult to get in and parents get interviewed as well.

Shihska Niketan School
Location: Sangolda
From 7 years old to 18
Owned by the same people as Nisha, also considered good, has more places than Nisha. Might move to Porvorim soon.

College of Panjim – Shraida Mandir
Location: Panjim
From 2 years old to 18
Large school with an excellent reputation, set up by the parents of Nisha a long time ago but is now run by a foundation. Is under supervision of the Delhi school board rather than the Goa school board (this is seen as positive but I do not know why). One women told me “This is the school everybody in Goa who can afford it will send their kids too.”

European School
Location: Nagoa
From 7 years old to 18
A small school which follows the European curriculum but puts everything of one year into six months. The school runs from September until March only.

Sunshine School
Location: Old Goa
From 7 years old to 18
This is a large school which has a good reputation but for many foreigners in North Goa it is a bit far away.

The Vasco Steiner School
(not sure about the precise name)
Location: Vasco & Margao
From 7 years old to 18
Follows the Cambridge curriculum under the Steiner educational system. Has an excellent reputation but is considered too far for people who live in North Goa.

Yellow Play School
Location: Anjuna
From 1 until 6 years old
This is a play school for toddlers run by an English woman. It operates only in the mornings and has a lot of parent’s participation.

Your may want to note that in India there are two main educational systems;

Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE). This form of education and examinations is most used in India and tends to teach and test knowledge acquired through learning by root.

Indian School Certificate (ISC). This form is much less wide spread and teaches more along learning through creating and understanding.

It is said that those who followed ISC are more likely to be successful in a western context. Whether this is true I do not know.

Hello flower and welcome to India Mike. Sorry, there is no international school in Goa although there was an ambitious plan a couple of years ago to build an international school but as far as I know nothing much has come out of it.

The best schools in Goa are Manovikas High School in Margao and Sharada Mandir which is in Panaji. Both of these schools follow the same syllabus and are affiliated to the ICSE board http://www.cisce.org/cisce/defaultmain.asp

Thank you for all!!!!! I am trying to move to Goa slowly, But most important thing is for my kid to have good school to fit in.
Otherwise my Plan to live in Goa is not going to work. If it doesnt work I am not very happy... I would like to have nice quiet and off from all the noisy civilizations. and give my kids to have opotunity to feel how their mother want to live or think etc... But still they have to have their oputunity to be free to live in the worldwide city in the civilizations, so I can not take their study away because of how I want to live.
therefore i at least give them proper education to go back where they come from. (do you understand my english OK? cause i am not a native english speaker.) anyway I have friend in india goa too. but still trying to find the good school. And thank you all for helping us with very kind heart.
I find the phoneno of Sharaida Mandir school and trying to contact with them at a moment. when something comes up ,I will share it here . now.
