Contemplating Moving to Goa
I'm an American contemplating moving to Goa. The only funds that will be available to me are $700.00 per month in Social Security checks. I'd like to hear from Americans or any other expatriates living in Goa as to how doable that is and any useful info that you may have. I lead a very modest lifestyle and lived in Asia and the Mideast many years ago.

. I lead a very simple lifestyle, would want a very small house, with some A/C and working plumbing and someone to clean up after me once a week. I certainly don't need anything fancy but not bare bones. I lve in Florida and so I'm very familiar with Monsoons. hese last two hurricanes (Charley and now Freda) have pretty much wiped me out financially and emotionally. I know that $700.00 US dollars translates to 30,100 Rs monthly. I've been told that it should be enough. |

$700 should be ok to lead a simple lifestyle.
Goa is a bit dead in the monsoon months so you need to actually check it out before you make any decision to move. You will also not have all the conveniences that you are used to Stateside. You should check out the Goacom message boards as well. http://www.goacom.com There are loads of Goans from Florida who frequent it and it is a better source of information on Goa than this site or any others. The people on Goacom were a great help when I was buying some property in Goa. Good Luck !

Tx. Florida is also pretty dead when not in the "snowbird season". I like to just "chill" anyway. Anybody want a hurricane? We're getting ready for Ivan next.

Really, fantastic pics.
Hope to see you sometime there in Goa as I want to retire soon and Goa sounds pretty well. I'll be there next December to choose my place in the sun. Jorge |

harv6099,
$700 may be a princley sum today, but do keep in mind that the inflation rate in India is much higher than the US. So if you are thinking long term, ss long as the mighty $ keeps appreciating against the Rupee, you will be ok. But if it does not, you will find that your $700 will not go very far. Recently, the $ has depreciated against most major currencies (25% against the Euro) and even against the Rupee. |
