Beer Cost

This is a very important question:
How much is the average price of beer in Goa?
Do they sell it in stores as well as in restaurants?
Never been to Goa so excuse my ignorance on this topic.

Didn't they tell you, Goa went dry after the Woman's Temperance League won the latest elections.
Just kidding - booze is cheaper than water.

60 cents to @$8 - that's quite a range there!
i'm going to be living in north Goa in Vagator i hope it's cheaper there.
i gather it's cheaper in the villages than in the tourist places.

You really must refine your questions to get sensible answers here. I am sure the range for a beer in San Jose would be equally large, depending on whether you were picking up a six-pack at your local store vs a nice restaurant or night club. The same logic applies in Goa and it is not so much whether it is a small village or a 'tourist place'.

For a beer-lover, the best bet is renting a place with a fridge -- at a 'wine store' (of which there are several in Vagator area) a dozen small Kingfisher will set you back around 220 rupees ($5 or so) and the large bottles about 440 ($10). There is a deposit on bottles which would be extra.

You can usually buy cold singles at these shops for around 25/40 rp. A few other brands also available in these shops at various prices -- I picked up a few Tuborg singles in my local shop for 30rp each (no deposit required).

As far as restaurants and bars -- the mark-ups from those wholesale prices are roughly what you would expect, depending on the pretentiousness of the establishment i.e. the grottier places mainly frequented by locals would generally only have a 5rp mark-up, while beach shacks popular with tourists would be considerably higher and clubs or ritzy places perhaps do stretch to $8 or more.

Staying in Vagator, you will likely make your way to Chapora eventually and you will find several cheap open air places along it's 2 block long main drag. Very popular in the evenings with long-termers.

I used to go to the distributor in Chaudi in the south and get a case(12 bottles) of 650ml bottles for 300 rupees. Thats 25 a bottle. And they also had a soda factory in Patnem that I would buy cases of soda at 2 1/2 rupees a bottle. But you need a frig.
