Your advice, please...living in Delhi

Hello, all.

Can you, especiall people in Delhi, please give me advice?

Arrived here one week ago and am apartment hunting now.
What do you think of living in apartment in Chirag Enclave?

expat married couple, no kids
Hubby's office is in OKhla
I am homemaker without car (will be using hubby's company car occasionally, but not everyday)

Me and hubby are in temprary apartment in Vasant Vihar..."the area" in Delhi, no doubt, but the rent is sky high we cannot afford it.
I am willing to take taxi or moto to get around.
But I do not know anything about that area....

Any advice, thought, opinion...anything you think, please!

Thank you.

rents are comfortable

Greater Kailash 2
Greater Kailash 1

East of kailash
and even
Panchsheel.

I guess you will have to be in that part of town wherein least travel time for hubby and you can go hang out in the better parts of town

cheers
let me know if u need anything more

Having hard time...

Mays,
Thanks for your reply.
We have not looked any of Kailash yet, so will ask our Agent about that area.

Why Chirag Enclave? Well, after looking at apartments after apartments, the only one we liked inside and outside of apartment was there. I had to take another look today, but apart from nice and quiet area, could not get much info, i.e. safe area?, water and electricity?, getting around??? etc...

Do you (or anyone in IM) know anything about this area?

Thanks again for your help.

Samba

Chirag

The area is nice but if you want a slightly more easy locality to live in which is say a bit more cosmopolitan than the rest

I would suggest that you get your agent to focus on the Kailash areas as these areas are comfortable and decent folk live in and around
plus the convenience of slighly larger markets than usual will help in the convenience factor

cheers

Chirag Enclave is a nice peaceful area as long as you are not on the main Nehru Place road( I'm assuming you arent) . Easy access to Greater Kailash M block market which is one of the better places to shop in South Delhi. Okhla is also about 10 minutes away much closer than from VV. We have an office across the road from Chirag Enclave in Nehru Place and i'm quite familiar with the area so let me know if you need any specific advice. Its a smaller locality with few entrances/ exits which are manned atleast at night so relatively safer. Water, electricity...just enquire with some of the neighbours i guess but shouldnt be any worse than other areas in S. Delhi. Otherwise quite a central area. If you like the apartment, I would say take it.

Hi Samba

Just wanted to say good luck with the house hunting.... and dont be discouraged if at first you cant find what you have in mind- you will eventually! Sorry dont know about the area you were asking about but the GK area is convinient.

We moved here some months ago when by hubbie got transfered through his company too.

Are you planning to work?

If you need any tips on a gym, where to buy great bread etc I'll be happy to help

Next week is antoher week...

Mays,

Thanks again for your detailed replies.
We were shown some more apartments in the area other then GK yesterday...actually liked some of them but if we do not get any of them, will be starting our seach in GK. I really wanted to decide this week and move on, but I hope I get lucky next week. Still considering Chirag but will have a look at GK first.

Have a good weekend!

All I need is luck...

AnnaD,

Hello. Thanks for your reply. I knew it would take sometime to hunt the apartment we really like, so I guess I should be patient...which I am not good at

I will be very happy to take up your offer of info...bread and gym, will PM you later. As for work, let's just say I am open to the possibility but everything comes second to apartment, so cannot think of it right now....

Have a good weekend!

Samba

Always good to have encouragement

Karan321,

Thanks for your reply.(My first reply did not show up here...funny...)
Your reply is really helpful since you know the exact area. The apartment is deep into Chirag Enclave, not close to Nehru Place as you assumed, so it is really quiet. I guess that is one of the reason why we like it....it really helps to relax not to hear horn music by cars after being on the road, stuck in jam, for a long time.

It sounds like nice area so I am still seriously considering. At the same time, a bit worried about getting around daily, but I guess I just have to get used to it.

If we take it, I am going to need more advise from you...hope you do not mind hearing from you.

Have a good weekend

Hi Samba

You know, your "quiet" place in Chirag sounds worth it just for the peace! That's something we had a struggle to get used to when when winter arrived & the fans & a'cs were off the noise level makes a rapid rise!

But do consider transport.... there is ofcourse the option of callinga taxi for say about Rs.400-6hrs/700-12hrs (with English speaking driver atleast till you get your bearings...)

Yes do PM me, we'll have a chat

hi anna, i am told that GKII is a great place, since u have some experience hunting for apartments, i am only one person living alone so probably wont need such a big space, just a studio apartment is good enough for me , how much do u reckon that would cost me every month?
