Why? TataSky, Why?

Not sure this is the right forum, moderators please move as you see fit.

Tata Sky will not accept a Debit Card payment over the phone - it has to be a Credit Card.

Why? I would think it would be the opposite.

So, for Rs. 40, my TV service is cut off. I have to go to the market for a 'voucher'. This, while my driver has taken leave for an extra day, while he is sorting out some mess in his family, in his village, a few hundred kms away. His cell is turned off.
I don't drive here (yet) but this may change affairs.
I know, angst over TV - not very mature. But small things have gotten to me today. The handle fell off our door this morning, with no advance notice.

Another visit to the Bazaar.

Dang it.

You can chuck the Tata Sky and Gift it to someone as shown in one of its ads. There are better options avialable in the market.

But... Why not order one over the phone!

Doesn't surprise me at all. Even though it may say VISA on it, my Indian debit card is nowhere near as flexible as my UK Switch/Maestro card. I don;t think I can even use it for online shopping.

Doesn't Tata accept online payment via your Indian bank's "payment gateway"?

If I remember, you were also not been able to visit a doctor for a long time.
Is your illness gone now?

You can set up an online account for tata sky. this way you can recharge through your credit card or net banking. This is always much easier then vouchers.

All these providers like Tata Sky or Dish TV are morons, they will stop service even if you owe them 10 rupees !!!

Consider yourself lucky. Several years ago, at ISBT Delhi, I was caught unawares when the toilet door fell off, handle and all, with no advance notice.

Ahhh, right.

That'll be a "high-tech" company, then!

Very funny, you'all

I'm glad you guys are having fun at my expense.

TV is back on - now I'm dealing with the door and my driver, both of whom are being non-cooperative in the extreme.
My door doesn't budge (from the inside)if you close it, leaving me with no option but to keep it open when I'm at home.
My driver seems to have family issues in court far, far away. I'm apprehensive about him leaving and never coming back again.

I'm also terribly behind at work, so being on IM is not exactly the best thing right now.

Oh well, such is life.

Oh dear!

So you risk being trapped in the house? Maybe better to trap your driver in the house!

Hmmm... but then, he can't drive.

OK... you have to do the driving now

The page load time for the Tata Sky website depends in most part upon your net connection speed. I recharge online using the office network and it usually works ok.

And, if it is a debit card, doesn't one need to key in a PIN? I'm not so sure whether that applies to a VISA enabled debit card as well, but I need to key in a 4 digit PIN whenever I use my debit card at a merchant establishment. Of course, it's not VISA enabled but it has a Maestro logo.

OK, the pressure mounts to start driving.

Let's reconsider - get trapped in the house (with a driver) or risk Indian roads?

One wonders

I think you have the best solution, Nick-H - if you don't work, you don't need to drive to work.
