What to Expect: Living in South Delhi/Gurgoan on 100k usd

Well, I see lots of threads here for living at various pricepoints. It seems most are on the low end or the extremely high end (3thousand USD for rent a month!).

This begs the question - what is a sensible person to live like on 100k USD? What amount should someone put towards housing - where should they live to maximize it vs. live a good life? (Assume a couple - 2 bedroom, no worries of children) I thought I would get a discussion going around this figure as well.

100k = 40 Lacs = 3.33 Lacs a month.......thats a lot of money and enough for you to be very very comfy and put in a substantial sum in the bank every month.

If you could shed some more details regarding your lifestyle etc , it would allow pinpointing of expenses you can expect in general..

A 2 Bedroom setup in South delhi would range from 20,000 - 40,000 depending on the furnishings, age etc so thats only 15% of your monthly income..

I lived fairly well in South Delhi on not even half of that amount. I think you'll be just fine as long as you're smart with your money.

100,000 USD annual :

How non global of me to leave that out! My mistake. So, that is 337500 rupees.

Thanks for the response puchoo & onajourney. My lifestyle is pretty good. Couple, no children. Late 20s/early 30s. I'm hearing from the infamous relocation firms that comfortable living quarters in south delhi are minimum $2500 usd.

From the agency:
As per your budget we would be able to short list properties in Gurgaon only as for south delhi the minimum budget should be INR 100,000/- for a decent apartment with minimum commute time to Gurgaon since your office is located here.

Seems a bit unreasonable!

Yes it would work out to 337,500 or so per month.

2500 USD = 100,000 INR per month , way too much. I mean ofcourse there are places available in that amount and higher as well but if your agency is telling you that this is what you require at the minimum then they are way off. I stay in Defence Colony in South Delhi and you can get yourself a good 2 bedroom place within 40,000 per month or so.

Think you need to kick these guys in the b*%T. Its not realistic pricing at all. Yes South Delhi is expensive , yes it has properties ranging from 10,000 - 250,000 per month, but there's enough choice.

Check this link out

http://www.99acres.com/property/quick_search.php

Look at the number 2 result... not bad at all right? And this is a 3 BDD place

South Delhi, Amar Colony, First Floor, 200 Sq.Yds., 3 Bedrooms Drawing-dining room, Peaceful location, Servant room, Marble Flooring, facing main road, Facing North, Independent Enterance, Private parking, Beautifully Constructed

All this for 40k a month ,far from the 100k your agency is suggesting. Whats the name of the agency anyway?

writer corporation.

This was the company w/ the quote. I think I will just move and stay in a hotel for a few weeks while I find a place. I have to think this is a more reasonable option.
