Thoughts on Vasant Kunj?
Getting ready for our summer trip to India! Leaving in ten days... with last minute planning as usual.
I have a question for the forum about apartment locations. We're spending the month of July in Delhi and considering a service apartment in Vasant Kunj, C block. When we were living in Delhi several years ago, Vasant Kunj didn't have a particularly good reputation. What's the word on Vasant Kunj these days? Is C Block an acceptable area? Is it close to markets, restaurants, bars, and the like? Any insights would be greatly appreciated! |

Well, the Delhi-ites here should really be responding, not me, but I stayed briefly in a place in Vasant Kunj about 5 years ago, and I think it was in C Block, and it was in the middle of nowhere. Things may have changed, though.

Hello Haley - Welcome to IndiaMike.
I suggest you PM Adriane&Salvador IM members who are staying at Vasant Kunj presently. They are leaving at the end of the month - maybe you are moving into their digs. At any rate I'm sure they will be happy to fill you in on the best/nearest shopping/dinning/watering holes. I know Hauz Khas is not far from there for some good eats and shopping. Best of luck!

Vasant Kunj is a perfectly fine area, all the C-blocks (c-5, c-8, c-9, etc.) included. It's not that Vasant Kunj is a very exciting place in itself, but it has a FabIndia for shopping, a Nirulas if you want ice cream, a monday market for fruits and veggies, and it's just down the road from the shopping market in Vasant Vihar for your restaurant, bar, McDonald's and other shopping needs. It's quite close to the airport and also 30 mins or so from the other south delhi areas you might want to see like Hauz Khas, etc. So stay in Vasant Kunj if you're looking for a relatively quiet place to have an apartment, or look elsewhere if you really want to be in the center of a lively bunch of restaurants, bars and night-life locales.

thanks for feedback!
Thank you for your comments on Vasant Kunj! We have decided to stay in the apartment there after all. We fly out in three days... very exciting! It's been five years since we were last in India, and everyone tells us that Delhi has changed a great deal. I can't wait to see it.
