sports in South Delhi (no cricket!)

Hi there,

we just finished our fact-finding and realised we haven't seen that many sports accomodations. Some gym or swimming pool. What's your experience with sporting in South Delhi? What do you do, and where do you do it?

thanks in advance!

There is pretty good access (perhaps even a rating of very good access) to a variety of sports in South Delhi through DDA sports complexes.

http://www.dda.org.in/sports/sports_default.htm

Have used both Saket and Siri Fort

Cheers

As far as Gyms in South Delhi goes, there are lots of them.. can you be specific about the location?

Also, for cricket you can try at Nehru Stadium.. I presume that these days it might be under renovation because of Common Wealth Games

Are you looking for adults or children? It all depends where you live as some of the colonies have facilities for residents and some don't
Cricket - if children they can join an academy, adults it may help to ask on an ex pat website.
Tennis there are a couple of ex pat clubs, who play during the week.
Gyms - there are lots
Swimming- depends where you live or you can join a hotel club but quite expensive.
Some ex pats can join their Embassy clubs and use their facilities not sure if the Dutch can.

All courts are now down? They had been using it for tournaments through the construction this summer.

Very shut. I played there throughout the summer amidst the International tournaments, [not playing in them,'cos I'm crap at tennis] and construction but now shut.

Alternatives are Cosmic, Vasant Kunj and Shri Ventkateswara College as well as Siri Fort and other DDA courts

Hi
sports both for us (early 30's) and baby-swimmig, or baby-yoga or toddler-tennis or whatever they have for our daughter, who will be 1-4yrs when we're there. We are focusing on Vasant Vihar.

Kate, how long have you lived in Delhi? you seem to know a lot, will you be around much longer?

For Swimming I really doubt, as there might not be any swimmming pool with hot water.. If you are staying in Vasant Vihar, why dont you try Vasant Vihar Club.. They have Tennis, Badminton and Gym.. along with Simming Pool which opens only in Summers...

I am a member of that club as i put up in vasant vihar itself.. will try to get more information this weekend...and will let you know...

Will you be stayin in vasant Vihar?

For swimming: be very careful about where you go, I know 2 expats who became seriously ill after using a public pool. One of them caught legionella and enjoyed a protracted stay in hospital, one week of which in icu on a ventilator.

As said VV has it's own club. Sport is quite hard here as it's so hot for so long. There are people who meet for running as I've seen that on yuninet. I think they meet at The Rose Garden in Hauz Khas.

Likewise a friend had cholera and a pool was a likely suspect
