setting up internet in Defence colony?

Hi- I need to get internet in my apartment in Def Col. There is not an existing phone line in my apartment but the neighbor has internet access and a phone so it is possible. Any recommendations as to where/who to go to? What is this gonna cost me and how long does it take? Thanks!!!!

Hello

Hi Kate,

If you are planning to stay here for few months then go for Airtel broadband connection. They just need a copy of your lease deed and proof of identity. You can get unlimited broadband wireless internet connection along with fixed landline service for 900 rupees.

Cheers,
Harsha

Please check their website for the various tariffs and deals available. Any "unlimited" connection is likely to be slow.

You can also see a number of threads on this subject here: please search and browse.

As long as there is no technical difficulty in running the line to your apartment, Airtel should have you connected within a very few days.

Define "decent"!

My previous BSNL plan was unlimited. 256K. That's not 'decent', in fact it wouldn't even pass as 'broadband' in much of the world.

As a matter of fact, most airtel plans with Unlimited usage are fairly high speed. They do cost more though.

I have a 1 mbps plan with unlimited download. Its about 2400 INR ($50) per month. Thats a lot even by US Standards.

They have also recently launched a 'Turbo' Plan (For about $65/month) with 16 mbps speed and 20 GB download cap, which though not unlimited but is quite a lot of gigs.

From Delhi, Call 44444121 from any landline. From outside Delhi, Call 011-44444121

If you have an airtel mobile, Just call 121 (Toll-free)

Airtel is the fastest actually in terms of arranging a set-up.

44444121 number is a centralised number. They usually take 1 working day to setup internet and landline in your house and 1 working day to activate internet.

Go to any Airtel outlet nearby and book your internet connection. I am sure there will be one in Defence Colony Market. Airtel has a vast network of underground cables in the National Capital Region and they can connect you on in a jiffy most anywhere in Delhi. I got my internet/landline connected in 2 hours flat after first contacting them in Noida (the documentation guy came in half an hour). If it helps, their Call Centre number located in Noida is 4444555. You dial 95120-4444555 from Delhi. They will guide you to the nearest airtel outlet.

I don't think that that is still available; plans change, and those with advantageous plans should take care to keep hold of them .

1Mb/unlimited is very good!

It is more expensive than my 2Mb limited.

You can use a USB modem for wireless internet access. Contact a service provider such as Tata Indicomm or Reliance to buy a connection and USB dongle.
