Moving to Delhi with Children now all teenagers
I never post new threads 'cos it's so scary but thought I would stick my head above the parapet and say what I have learnt.
This is very South Delhi and UK ex pat biased so apologies in advance. Schools and where to live? These are dependent on each other I know the South Delhi options well. [For Gurgaon ask someone else.] In particular I know The British School and The American Embassy School. Very different schools with a very different ethos so you need to visit and check which would most suit your child. Different costs as well so the web sites are helpful. Talk to them via e mail as soon as you think you might be moving. And things change so there might be no places and a few days later there are places available. There are other options Modern School, Delhi Public School, St Pauls,The French School, German School etc. What many people do is enroll their children in a school and then look around and change. All much easier when you are here Where to live:- Delhi is becoming much more cosmopolitan so the list is becoming endless. South Delhi would be where most ex pats feel more comfortable. Hauz Khas, Green Park, and the posher parts are:- Vasant Vihar, West End Greens, Jor Bagh, GK 2, Sundar Nagar etc. Food is a biggy in our house. AES do an Indian cooking course so you can learn how to cook Indian food and change the spices to suit the kids. So for one child I remove some food before adding extra spices. Shopping for food and other stuff:- It all depends where you live. So Modern Bizarre in Basant Lok/Priya sells everything including Tesco bacon and beef burgers. Delhi Network is a helpful resource http://www.delhinetwork.org/ Welcome to Delhi |

If the kids are Americans the American Embassy school would more conform to what they're used to, as would the British School for UK kids. In the case of the American School, US citizens would also get priority for enrollment; unsure about the British School.
Other good Delhi-area Indian schools are Sri Ram in Gurgaon and Vasant Valley in Vasant Vihar.
