Moving to Delhi: what to bring / what is difficult to get?

Hello there,
Next week my fiancee and I will move to Delhi. So far we have only be in India to travel, not to work. I have read with much interest many posts on this forum and hope you can help with ansering some questions:

- What type of goods (household, clothes, food) are difficult to get in Delhi and would be nice to bring along?

- Any good Thai restaurants in Delhi and are Thai food ingredients (fish sauce, peppers, same type of vegetables, sweet & sour sauce etc.) widely available? If not, any suggestions where to go in Delhi?

- My work place will be in Gurgaon, Haryana. What nice neigboorhoods would be good to concentrate on when looking for a place to live when we look for a green residential area with a good atmosphere, a good choice of restaurants and shops, and places with gyms and facilities for sports like tennis and squash? I also would like to avoid the biggest traffic jams to and from work.

- My fiancee would like to find a job (f.i. project assistant, event coordinator etc.) in Delhi, or do some studying as second choice. Any suggestions how she can start to find a job in Delhi? How difficult will it be to get the work permit? What institutes that are offering day-time courses on f.i. management, marketing or hospitality, are recommended?

Thanks in advance for any input or suggestion,

I wouldn't worry too much about not finding things in Delhi. We packed coffee and lots of other silly stuff and found that just about anything one would want was available there. Delhi is quite cosmopolitan. For example, Devan coffee is not as good a Seattle coffee, but it's not bad either. Local wines like Madera and Sula are fine for table wines. I'm not a rum drinker, but found Sikim rum to be excellent with a bit of soda water. The best Thai restaurant we went to was the Thai Wok in Merauli Village (near Qutb Minar). It's more expensive, but very good quality. We heard that the Bangkok3 at the Defence Colony flyover has pretty good Thai food, but never got to try it.

If you haven't a base to start with, I would recommend trying the Ahuja Residency in Delhi or Gurgaon. Ask for Jaideep. They really have their act together and will help you get oriented.
