| Moving to Delhi Hello, We are considering moving to India, Delhi from Singapore in a couple of months. I have been reading your forums and I find them very helpful but I still have some questions. First, if you are staying in Delhi longer time lets say one year do you take malaria pills or do you use them only when you go to some other parts of the India like countryside? How about mosquitoes do you need to use mesh in your windows or over the bed in your apartment or house in Delhi? What kind facilities apartments usually have? How about tennis or badminton can you reserve a court from clubs and what are the prices and what kind of clubs there is in Delhi? What areas would you recommend from Delhi to look if looking for an apartment? We don’t have children so schools are not a problem. Thank you very much in beforehand! ![]() |

| when in Delhi go and look at the Lebernum apartments in Gurgaon, close to the Airport. Lebernum has a very large concentration of expat population, has excellent facilities, and the residents can answer all your other questions too.

| Hello Morko, Welcome to Delhi. Well if you are working in Delhi then Gurgaon would be bit far. Nice places in Delhi to live are mainly south-central Area..with in the 4-5Kms radius of IndiaGate. Areas are: Sunder nagar, Jorbgah, Shanti Niketan, Chankyapuri, Panchshheel, Defense Colony, New Friends Colony, Nizzamudin..... In Delhi appartment system is still not very popular, here its normally an independent house where a family have a floor of it for themselves, most of the time landlord occupies the other floor. Mosquitos can be problem depending on the area you live in..but mosquito repellents works out fine. For tennis, badminton etc..the facilities from the govt is either non-existant.or the membership has a waiting period of years.so you'll have to depend on either private clubs or sports associations....most of the expats normally utilise the sports facilities at the local high commisions, hotels, and some sports facilities developed by govt but run by private management. Will give you more details over the weekend, as I'm currently travelling and got to rush for my next meeting.

Prices it depends ![]() Usually they have Gym,swimming pool, tennis ,bar etc. Main center Delhi, south Delhi you wont find Apartments,Gurgon,East Delhi,(Mayur Vihar,Noida(West Delhi(Rohini) is full of apartments. You will get 2 bedroom too 3 bedroom flats.Dont go near DDA flats ehehe,Can try Society flats. mosquito repellents comes will the all forms .Radz

| Morko, If you going to be working at the Radisson complex, then Gurgaon should be the best for you. The rental should vary between 10-15000 per month depending on the apartment buildings. There is plenty of accomodation available in that area, and I have also lived there. If you require any info, feel free to ask. Good luck, Rohan

| HI there. I am a American woman who has been living on/off in Delhi for many years now..Welcome! First off, I would probably suggest that you initially go for a serviced apartments,9in a so-called nice neigborrhod) Many visiting workers, foreginers, diplomats take when they first arrive into Delhi., before they fully set up shop, and then u can slowly decide where you want to live and find a place..Delhi is a big city, made up of neighborhoods, and some of the better addresses (it is relative), tend to be in south Delhi, very desriable neighborhoods. Some areas that come to mind are Greater KALISH, vASANT vIHAR, vASANT kunj, cHANYAKAPURI, and the more central, dEFENSE COLONY, Sundar NAGAR, etc, etc..many embasses or consluates are in both Chanakupuri or Vasant vihar, so many forreginers live in these neighborhoods. Also, i see you say you will be working at the Radisson complex, (the HOTEL?) well then South Delhi like VAsant Vihar is a great option, as pretty near bye..oh, about aprtments, u can find any facility you need, for a price.I KNOW in Vasant vihar u can find very nice furnished apartments, with TV, microwave, kithcn, maid service, AC, security, etc, and also in many other niegbhorhhods. i can give you a contact if need be..about your other questions...no, living in Delhi i do not take malarials, never have.i take precautions, only..can put one of those mosquito lamps into the socket, keeps them at bay(forget the name)..From my knoweldge, not a problem, and u would not want to take them permanenetly! About health facilities, well, the best ones are located at all the top-notch hotels, dotted around the city,..the Sheraton, Taj, etc, etc..MANY hotels allow outside club menbership, for their pool and health clubs..there are also a few sports clubs popping up, here and there...okay, that's it for now, but feel free to drop me a line with more questions, Dreamingofindia@aol.com |

| living in delhi i plan to live in delhi fro a year or two-a friend has a flat for rent in laxmi nagar, which i have seen but wondered what anyone else knows about it. i dont want to live in an area of expats, but with locals. the flat has 24 hour water...but no nets on the windows. looks nice, two years old. so far the traffic and weather in delhi is not appealing to me...nor are the hawkers at the market. i have started saying 'go away or i'll kill you' and that seems to work. but i dont like having to react that way. i think i must be a village girl... |

| Live in Gurgaon! If yr office is going to be at the Radisson def live in Gurgaon. We stayed at Labernum for a while this year and did not regret it at all. In Labernum a 3 br unfurnished apt will cost u 45-55, a 4 bedroom will cost 60-70. Other options are Beverly (3 br - 30-40), Garden Estate (3 bedroom 25k, town house 55-60). Advantages of the complexes I have mentioned are they all have swimming pool, gym, tennis court, facilities within the compound for residents. Also they all have power back up so you do not need to owrry about electricity or water as you would in most Soth del colonies. Furnished apts or semi furnished are also available. |

| I would suggest live in either Noida or Gurgaon...the crowd is much better and so is the traffic. Laxmi Nagar is more of a market area and a little downmarket, crowded and not an exact picture of all of India..there are much better sights and insights to India and Indian life. |

| going to gurgaon hi, I am also moving to gurgaon for at least six months possibly up to two years. I am curious about a couple of things in this area of India. One, are there supermarkets for shopping for food? Do most of the apartments have backup generators for power outages? How is the traffic.....hectic like in delhi? Is it possible for women to find fitness centers for exercise? Lastly, I would love to see some pics of the area if anyone has a few to share or a web site where I could view gurgaon. thanks |
