Moving to Delhi
Some weeks ago, I asked for your opinions about living in Noida or South Delhi. Now that I've been there and visit both, I decided to stay in Delhi and go to Noida everyday. I have more questions: - accomodation; I've heard that guest houses are a good place to stay. - transportation! I'll need a car (+driver), do you know any company? Prices? you pay per km, day, ...? - friends!! I'd like to meet young people (expats and non expats) to hang out !! have some frozen beers after work ... Though I've heard that Delhi is not famous for its party, I'd to check it out by myself I'm coming the 16th of January. Feel free to contact me! Lluis |

hi some advice for you,
-it's cheaper to stay in Noida, i feel, rental in Delhi is going up like crazy. If you are working in Noida and want to stay in Delhi, i suggest you stay somewhere nearer to Noida so that your travelling time will be cut down and wont get the Jam (espcially ard Lajpat Nagar area twoards Noida) -transport, pm me if u want more details i recommend my agent to you, he provide both the car and driver. -sure, pm me ur contact and we can meet up for beer if u r free~ i am staying in South Delhi too. -Party places in Delhi sucks, now winter i think there is more house party instead. Been to Orange Room once, not too bad though. ![]() |

Hello,
Welcome to Delhi! If you are on a short trip then guest houses are suitable but if your trip is a long one then maybe it might be a good idea to rent a apartment. Hiring a car is possible and a good idea to begin with, there are private companies from where you can hire cars + driver, costs vary a lot depending on usage & type of car required, there is a wide range. I live in NOIDA and work in Delhi and it takes me 35 min usually to travel a distance of 20 kms by car to reach office in the morning. Delhi is 6th largest and 4th most populous city in the world. Delhi has about 4.40 million automobiles, 14 million people and some of the most expensive real estate, in addition there are some world class medical facilities avialable at a cost. Night life is decent, depends what you prefer, mostly upmarket night clubs & now several pubs, mostly indoors as weather is extreme, best is to arrive with an unconditional mind and let Delhi do the rest for you, let me know if you need any other info Cheers! |

As mentioned in an earlier post it depends on your duration of stay. Short term furnished apartments as well as guest houses are available both in South Delhi and Noida. One of my friends just moved here for 3 months from the UK and he has taken up a 1 bedroom fully furnished apartment in Gurgaon for 20,000. A similar apartment in Vasant Kunj should cost closer to 35,000. If you decide on a guest house then try to get one in Friends Colony or near Nehru Place etc. which are relatively closer to noida.
Transportation: you can get a car and driver for a day ranging from Rs. 600 to Rs. 1500 depending on the car and the company. Typically you can negotiate for a 8 to 10 hour day and there would be a fixed rate for the first 80 km per day after which there would be a per km extra charge. most of my friends use a company called Rajdhani Travels. If you want i'll send you the details. As far as places to hang out at there are quite a few to choose from in Noida and South Delhi. I'm sure you'll find some to your liking. |

Karan321 & cfhi, please send the details of your agency.
If I want a car for more than 10 hours, do you recommend to buy one? I think pay 10 hours and use it just 2 is a waste of money ... I asked about the guest house for the first weeks, but after that I'll move to an apartment seeing that i'm gonna stay in Delhi for a long time. cfhi, I'll tell you something to go for a beer. Others can join us! email me Thanks, Lluis |
