Hullo all - I've been lurking for years while living in Delhi as an expat. I think this forum has to be my favourite part of IndiaMike. It used to be such fun reading the "Moving to Delhi - Any hope of finding Marmite?"-type threads and wondering if I knew the answer. Of course, these days the answers to most of these queries are far simpler and the challenge is gone!

Now I'm leaving Delhi and it's time to ask this group a different kind of question. What's the best way to get rid of stuff? I have a household full of lovely wooden colonial furniture, electronics, housewares, books, etc that I need to sell/remove in the next couple of days. I'm afraid my finances don't allow me to donate the lot however I am willing to let it all go at rock-bottom prices. (I will be giving loads of clothes and smaller stuff to a worthy NGO).

I'm assuming I'll be electronically flogged if I attempt to advertise the specifics here. I'm not plugged into any of the embassies or expat communities these days, so any suggestions where to start? Are there bulletin boards or newsletters I can post a list of stuff to? Any quicker solutions?

As I mentioned I need to leave Delhi in the next fews days so I'm looking for a quick solution. My reasons for leaving so quickly are convoluted not sinister, I can assure everyone.

Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Vicky

Vicky: Its not easy and can be stressful. Go and advertise it at your work place, tell your neighbours, tell us here on IM and then lastly there are selling agents, who buy the entire bulk (all inclusive) from you at a set price and then kinda arrange an auction at your place on a weekend. The deal is they pay u amount for the entire lot and then try to sell it at your premises on a weekend. What they're able to sell they do it and rest they take at the end of the day. But during this day don't even pop in..it could be more stressing..
But first seperate out waht you want to donate and do it...

I think advertising in your own company would be a good idea.Few months ago one expat in my company did this and managed to sell some of his stuff.

Selling details

Vicky,

Try Yuni-net and Delhinet, both are Yahoo groups which advertise things for sale from other expats. Go to Yahoo Groups site, register and then post.
