Looking for apartment in Delhi

Hello there!

I will be doing an internship in New Delhi starting 10th Sept. for 6 months, and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice about finding an apartment for that duration.

Do you know what kind of rent I should be expecting? And what's a better location to start looking. My office is in Vasant Kunj.

I've lived in Delhi before and I know finding suitable accommodation, particularly for a girl, can be quite a challenge, so any help will be most appreciated!

Cheers!

Look at Vasant Kunj, Munirka Vihar, Munirka Enclave first. These will be convenient and cheaper options. Not sure about rents, but I think you can get a two bedroom unfurnished apartment for 15k or so. Somebody living in Delhi may give more accurate numbers.

If money is not an issue, Vasant Vihar. You can end up paying many multiples of the 15k in rent out there.

Suggesting these areas since living close to work is a big advantage. And the Munirka's are very conveniently located, and are generally safer than Vasant Kunj, which has a sporadic reputation for robbery/crime.

I don't know your budget, but the Capt'n is right, you can get a two bedroom unfurnished place for 15K per month in Vasant Kunj. I wouldn't worry much about crime here in Vasant Kunj, it doesn't seem to be a problem and you'll otherwise have the facilities you'll need in terms of local markets, access to a movie theater in Basant Lok market, the restaurants in Vasant Vihar, etc. If price is not an issue, you could certainly look in Vasant Vihar. You might have trouble finding a furnished place and/or a six month lease, though, if that's what you're looking for. You can always try using a broker for some assistance.

Some additional thoughts about Vasant Kunj... There is a local yellow pages called the Vasant Kunj Informer and Shopper where apt brokers put little ads, as well as those offering paying guest accommodations. Here's one example: www.sarai.in. I'm just pulling it out of the yellow pages; I don't know anything about it. But a paying guest accommodation might be an economical way to go.

Wow! THanks a million you guys! Such helpful and prompt responses! I really appreciate it! Well I suppose 15k for a 2 bedroom is affordable with my pay. I lived in Vasant Vihar the last time Iw as in Delhi and I really liked the area. But I've heard the rent's shot thru the roof so I don't know if I'll still be able to afford living there. I'll definitely check out that website from the yellow pages...you know where I can pick up one of those yellow pages when I'm there?

Thanks again! You guys are great!

If you lived in Vasant Vihar previously then you already have a good sense of the area. And, yes, VV rents have shot through the roof. You'd have to be safely above Rs.50,000/mo for an unfurnished place.

Regarding the yellow pages, they are delivered to the homes so I'm not sure where a non-resident can pick one up, but I can see that you get one or at least a photocopy the relevant pages.

I'll send you a PM.

If budget permits, I suggest look at the Vasant Kunj areas which are closer to Besant Lok/Vasant Vihar. Better connected and quieter. eg the area around/before Spinal Injuries center as you go from Vasant Vihar/JNU.
