Living in Delhi with kids

Living in Delhi with kids, what sort of things do you do on the weekends and for fun and recreation?

I am just trying to get a feel of what day to day life would be like if we moved there!

I have heard there are some nice parks? What else is there to do?
Is there activities for young kids like Gymboree, indoor play gyms etc?

Haven't got an idea how it is to live there; for some activity tips see the links below.

yes there are some lovely parks around Delhi - and don't forget the forts and monuments as well (some of them have their own grounds which are very roomy and spacious). There are also numerous museums - and with some of them (like the train museum) the kids get to climb all over the engines as well.

To a large extent out door activities are dictated by the weather. In summer - you really don't want to be outside - or if you are, it should be in a pool up to your neck somewhere. In door gyms and play centres are appearing in various places but still not wide spread. Winter is when a lot of the out door sports occur. So what you find is not much summer sport - and then lots of different sports all packed into a 4-6 months period.

A lot of the sport is associated with what ever school your children will be going to (which is great as it takes the hassle out of having to find it yourself). You will probably come to find that a lot of what you do with the children will revolve around school. Our three have a whole raft of after school activities and are constantly off to other friends places to play. Consequently we haven't had any trouble keeping them active or occupied.
