living and working in Delhi too
Hi People,
I am just like the lady who posted earlier also coming to stay and work in India Delhi. I am a Male Singaporean in my early thirties and would be delighted if i can make some friends here and also to exchange pointers/informations about delhi with the local and local expats who lived here for a while
Hopefully someone can answer my questions i have
1) Is there any apartments that i can find near to my work place which is near ParkRoyal Hotel? ( Walking distance from home to work place would be ideal) Just thought if i might be able to get some locations in mind before i start searching.
2) I will reach Delhi on the 26th Sept and will be staying in a hotel for a week before i get my own apartment. How is the climate there now? Any one have any idea how the wheather changes in Delhi?
3) Is there any problems in getting my laundry done? How's the laundry service here in Delhi?
4) How's the transport prices like? For example cabs , etc..
Thanks people

Hi, Welcome to IM.I've been to Delhi and Sg and I found that there are very few things in common. You'll find them in time.
To pay my 2 cents worth:
1 - Live in GKII
2 - Very hot and perhaps wet, but for a Sg fellow I think you will be able to handle it.
3 - There are no laundry shops (as much as I know) where you can take your stuff and have washed/ironed. Most people hire a 'baai' who will come to their house and wash things for them. And then take the dried out clothes to another guy (dhobi) (by the road side) who will iron them for you.
4 - Try using pre-paid taxis as much as possible. Keep a mobile phone with you at all times.
Great day!
I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

hey thanks for the tips, jus a few more questions, where is GKII? I am not worried about the humidity and heat , more of the wheather changes period that concerns me. And i finally understand what the Dhobi does after reading so much about Dhobi in other threads. First thing when i reach Delhi is to get a local mobile phone number. What is pre-paid taxis?

where is GKII?Right next to Nehru Place, where the Park Royal hotel is.

It requires you pay for your trip before you take it. These guys have to work with the police, so there is some assurance that you'll reach where you wanted and you'll not be ripped off.

Going to be exiciting for me , this new job posting~~ Hope to be able to meet more people and make lots of friends in India Delhi.

Hi, cfhi
How's your search for Delhi info going?
As you can see from my posts, hubby and I are new here and hunting apartment.
Our conditions are bit differnt, but we moved here from Singapore.
We are not Singaporeans but can we put our heads together to figure out the climate issue?

Chirag Enclave that another member had enquired about previously is a 5 minute walk from Park royal hotel and so is East of Kailash. These are the closest areas to Park royal / international trade tower / nehru place etc. Both are relatively nice and peaceful areas.
GK (Greater Kailash) 1 and 2 are further about a 5-10 minute drive depending on traffic. I have an office in Nehru Place adjoining Park royal and sometimes it takes more than 20 minutes just to get to GK 2. Also GK 1 and 2 are more crowded with lot of commercial activity.

going there tomorrow
yes, Karan, that is me asking about Chirag Enclave. (and thanks for your help. My first reply to you did not show up. Posted another one, hope you can see it.)
cfhi, I am going there to have a look tomorrow...will post if anything interesting comes up.
One thing...you posted that you are coming to Delhi next week, right? Just find out from our agent that it will be Hindi New Year (correct me, if am wrong.) so from this sunday, all the dealing/sales of cars, properties, etc will be stopped for 2 weeks. I do not know how things will be regarding apartment hunting, but my agent told me nothing moves duruing this 2-week.
Anyone can give me more detail?

Hi Sambathe Hindu new yr is Diwali and the dealings will not be stopped. Starting this friday in the hindu calander the month of mourning (Shard) starts during that time the sale of property etc etc traditionally goes down but once the navratras start (oct first week) the buyers increase and the prices go wayyyy up so if you dont believe in this t starting fridday is a good time to buy but the people renting will not rent their properties buring this period ... starting first week of oct there will be a boom again
what is yr property dealer ... ? your best bet is it pick up a local english newspaper called THE HINDUSTAN TIMES and look in the classifieds
GK1 and 2 are better than chirag enclave but a little more expensive look in GK enclave and Kailash Colony

hiya..you should easily manage a pretty decent place in green park for less than 25k, there's plenty of accommodation available in green park main & green park extension itself and i think for about 15-18k you should manage a nice 2 bedroom apartment..of course you'll need to haggle a bit with the estate agent. You could also look up the saturday/sunday classifieds..plenty of accom. advertised in that.If you dont want to be in green park, close by areas would be safdarjung enlave, safdarjang development area, panchsheel park, shivalik, uday park, malviya nagar ( crappy place...avoid it)
happy house hunting

in that case best to stick to green park itself...1390..its a rip off, use the classifieds from the newspapers and dont advertise you are an expat ( unless its very obvious) rates quoted go up unfairly...green park main...2 bed..no more than 18k..thats too for one of the newer ' builder' apartments
