living and working in Delhi
Hi everyone,
I will be moving to Delhi in January, for work (and excitement!), and I have just received my contract. There are some things I don't understand, and I'm wondering if they are standard things that all professionals deal with in India, or if they are specific to the company I will be working for.
So, my questions are:
1. Really basic - will Rs. 30,000 per month be reasonable to live on in Delhi? It seems to me that it should be fine, but I'm just curious what people think about that.
2. There are two things I don't understand in the salary breakdown; they are called 'Flexibasket' and 'HRA'. Does anyone know what these things mean?
3. Does anyone have any thoughts on what it may be like for a young foreign woman to work in a professional/academic technical setting? Do professional women wear salwar kamiz to the office? Are there likely to be many other women working with me? (This really varies in Canada so I guess it must in India as well, but who knows?)
4. Who will be my friend in Delhi?? I will be like a little lost child who knows nothing about anything, except computers!
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and advice!

LOLThanks everyone for your replies. I still don't know what this Flexibasket thing is about, but I'll ask my employers. In the meantime, I'm just laughing at that word. It's fun to say. Try it: "Flexibasket".
