Hello all,

On a personal note, as our move date to New Delhi gets closer, the questions change from necessities (apartments, etc.) to nice-to-have requirements, such as the one on this thread. Does anyone else have a similar experience, or am I simply loosing discipline?

My 11 year old son is an avid baseball player. He is pitcher, plays second base, and is a lead off batsman for his minor league team in Houston. His genuine hope is to continue his passion for the game when we relocate to New Delhi. Woudl anyone be aware of a baseball minor league in New Delhi or its environs, and if so, could you please provide any contact details?

Our 'Plan B' is to get him hooked to cricket.

Cheers

Learning cricket would certainly help with his social and cultural adaptation. My inclination to swing a cricket bat with the same motion as a baseball bat was always good for a laugh, even when I knocked the ball a good distance...

Baseball is not a major (or even a minor sport) in India. So, it might be difficult. Your best hope would be to contact the american expat community once you are here

True, but the US Embassy grounds have a baseball diamond, though I don't know who uses it.

Btw, two things, CC:

1) If you haven't already, sign up with the Embassy's warden messages for the periodic 'everybody panic' emails about terrorist threats.

2) The US Embassy puts on a 4th of July party for US citizens (on the aforementioned baseball field) that you shouldn't miss. It's usually on the first Saturday after July 4th, but watch the Embassy site for details. Hamburgers made with actual beef, decent if not great Mexican food, both of which you'll be missing come July. There's also a great fireworks display.

Baseball is Venezuela's national sport too. You might also consider contacting their Embassy in Chanakyapuri - to see if there is any 'diamond organizing' on their end. Leave no stone unturned!

Easiest thing with the Embassy's field is contacting ACSA (www.acsaindia.com). I know Tuesday nights its used by members (US and local members) for soccer(football). Not sure about the other nights, but I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help.

Folks,

To close out this thread, there indeed is a Baseball little league in New Delhi. Dale Tashakari is the 2010 League Commissioner and can be reached at ndllbaseball@gmail.com . I sent out emails to near all places recommended in this thread (ASCA, US Embassy and the American School). I did not get a response for near two months till a few days ago when the Commissionner sent an email telling us the league was on and my son was in.

Cheers and thanks to all
