Just moved to Gurgaon - what's on here?

Hi!
I just moved from the UK to Gurgaon to work for a year. Would love to do one/some/all of the following:
a) learn some traditional dancing
b) learn to play a traditional musical instrument eg sitar
c) do some yoga
d) learn some Hindi
e) attend some cookery classes
f) meet some friendly, like minded people

Anyone have any recommendations?!?

Hi

We have the Gurgaon Yellow Pages known as "Gurgaon Sandesh"

Its available free of cost. Ask your newspaper wala to give you one.
You can also walk up to any shop in Gurgaon and request for a copy.

Don't enter the shop when there are customers. The shop owner will most probably tell you that he does not have one.

Also, the local barber shop will have a few copies (Don;t check out the malls for this)

western food in Gurgaon

Dear Friends,

I have just moved to Gurgaon to work for a year. I am western and I would like to know where I can buy RAW materials for western food - such as meat products. Spencers seems OK and the BigBazaar in Sahara mall also has some stuff, but meat products are really hard to find. Could you please advise on the following:
- sausages for breakfast
- cheese (in slices)
- pork and beef
- european bread
I would also be happy to share my experiences with you should anyone be interested in my humble advice...

I've seen some yoga schools and even free lessons in Gurgaon but I can't recall the details now. I'll find out and let you know.
Also no clue of learning hindi from a professional tutor or a school and cookery classes.

you can easily meet some friendly people in Gurgaon. To start we can have a Gurgaon meetup. anyone interested?

Zoltan: Since I'm a vegeterian I may not have the complete details of the meat products but I know of a good shop in Delhi. I know friends in Gurgaon who buy in one go and stock-up their fridge. This is the shop called 'Pigpo' at Jorbagh Market.
otherwise you can also try Spenser's stores. I don't find BigBazar a good shopping experience.
Apart from this you can also try a meat shop at the DLF Galleria market.
for breads, try Sugar & Spice, and other stores at Galleria market. The Sugar & Spice at Gurgaon is not as good as their delhi stores but you may be lucky.

Vinay - Thanks very much for the info!
I would definitely be interested in the meet up - let me know when.

Zoltan - there's a shop called Green Chick Chop which is by JMD (opposite Sahara Mall). They don't do beef (I don't know if any of the butchers would here) but they do chicken & lamb and have marinaded stuff as well. I think they have mayo and some other stuff like that in the fridge. They had some sausage as well but I've not tried them myself! Next to Green Chick there's a bakery called Bisque - they do all sorts of bread... Not been looking for cheese so can't help on that one.
So, hat are you doing in Gurgaon?

Cow/Buffallo beef would be difficult

There is a village/market area called "Wazirabad"
(Don't bother with Eicher, its on not map)

This is close to the Scottish School.

Landmark would be Sector 56, Kendriya Vihar.

Once your enter Wazirabad, on the left side, you would see a charcoal shop. Right behind the charcoal shop, is a small "Dhaba" when you would get cooked beef dishes. Very cheap and very yummy (On the spicy side though)

I am not sure on where to get Raw Beef. I know a place in Noida. (Harolla Market) where you can get raw beef.

I have "heard" that in old gurgaon, there is a masjid. You might be able to get raw beef there

Most of my friends who live in Gurgaon come to Delhi to shop for these things. My way of catching up with them is to go to Jorbagh market on Saturday evenings.
There are two very old shops here Pigpo & Steak house. You will find an amazing range of pork products at Pigpo and also very good quality chicken
You will find all sorts of cheese, condiments, sauces & preserves, canned foods, cereals from all over the world. They also stock a good variety of chocolates and meats.
Steakhouse remains closed on Sundays.
