ISO: Budget spreadsheet
There is a possibility that we will be moving to Delhi/Gurgaon next summer (2009). However, I may be moving this year before the wife and two kids come as the American School looks full. In order to understand what it will take for us to live in Delhi I'm looking for information on how much I need to plan to spend for education (both kids are US citizens but neither are native English speakers), housing, transportation, etc. For now I'm not looking for the exact amount necessarily but for a spreadsheet which others may have used in order to ensure that I don't forget anything.

Thats too general a question.
What kind of lifestyle? Judging by the American School, I can guess, but details will get better replies. Just one example, a middle class three bedroom place can cost 15/20000 a month, and go up to many times that. |

Here's a linkto the american embassy school fees information (its in the form of a pdf that you can download). A couple of additional points:
- as you've already found out the school is full - in some cases even the waiting lists have been closed so its a case of apply early and have a backup plan if you don't get in. - the school is the American Embassy School (and not just the american school) - so its caters to the embassy first and foremost. After that there are US passport holders plus foreign accredited missions to New Delhi. - not sure what the situation is with students who don't have english as a first language. From what I understand none of the international schools in Delhi are set up to deal with additional needs outside of a standard curriculum taught in english. In other words - if some sort of extra assistance or tutoring is needed - it might not be available during lessons - so best to check early on how that one can be handled. check out some of the related threads on this: Coming to Delhi to check it out to live! Need information on international schools in New Delhi good luck.
