How did you buy your car?
Hi I am doing some research for my move to Delhi next year, and I have decided that buying a car is in the cards. Looking for tips from anyone who has bought a used car. How did you find it? How much is a respectable price to pay for a used car the likes of a zen/maruti/ hyundai zen? Dealers/sites you recommend? How painful overall is the paper process?

Suzuki Motors offers used car under 'True Value' Brand, here you get only Maruti Suzuki vehicles.
Mahindra offers a multi brand outlet under the brand name 'First Choice' Apart from these you have many unoraganised players in every locality. Buying from the Suzuki or Mahindra outlet is little costly, but vehicles are tested and certified and paperwork is also taken care of by them.

Dukkha got his from a colleague at his work who was going back home.
Be aware that newer second hand cars sell for far more money than you'd expect to pay at home (in the UK at least) and older second hand cars have often had a VERY hard life!

I bought mine from an organized retailed who has now gone bust.
Used car business is not so trustable, so if you are going with unorganized sellers or strangers, make sure you get sufficient checks on the quality of the car as well as its history. The best option would be buy from some one you know, or some one who knows some one who knows some one selling his/her car ![]() The downside of buying from organized resellers is that they come at a cost. |

A samll guggestion, buy a new car. Instead of a Zen buy a Alto or A Maruti 800 as long as it is brand new. Don't go fpr a high end model.
If necessary spread your paymnets over 5 years (though 3 years is ideal). A loan of 1 lac will cost you Rs.2,200/ a month for60 months. (Approx). But the peace of mind of buying new is phenomemnal. Let me know if you need any more help on the car front, I consider myself somewaht of a car buff. Cheers, Nick |
