Couldn't they change their name to Sad, Overpriced Multinational?
the acronym is SOM cafe.
Are they still opening these things?.
They were cool for about 5 seconds in the seventies, like Planet Hollywood, another great Imperialist Invasion.
Sorry, Full Moon.

Reminds me of "The Meaning of Life".
It doesn't say you have to be dead on your organ donor card!

I have been to the Hardrock Cafe in the Skydome in Toronto many times, strictly for convenience. I found the food to be good for that sort of thing, but wayyy overpriced.

In case no one has guessed, I have a real thing for Cultural Imperialism.
These sort of places open all over the world, they're predictable, safe, average etc.
What is there so far. Maccas, KFC, Starbucks, taco Bell, hungry Jacks, burger king, pizza hut, dominoes, hard rock, planet hollywood, hog's breath, Gloria Jeans, blah blah.
I just get so sick of people saying it's great. Everyone eats it, sometimes, but it's just annoying they think it's an ethical business model. That it's okay to infiltrate a culture.
The really sad thing is, that a lot of people eat this shit as the majority of their food, and think if they have a nice slimy fatty salad at maccas, that they are eating healthy.
Even sadder is that they ARE eating healthy, compared with what they normally eat.

Palerider,

So true.. I have heard that chicken McNuggets at the Indian McDonald's outlets are enjoying the fastest growth rate of any food at any McDonald's outlet worldwide...In fact there is shortage of inventory, as restaurant managers scramble to bring in more chicken nuggets. If you get a chance, ask people why they are so keen on McNuggets?

One of my favorite T-shirts is Hard Rock Phnom Penh, simply because it doesn't exist.

So, why are they the fastest growing food item in the world.? It can't be the taste, they aren't even chicken I don't think, maybe recon. chicken.

same here , yet to go myself but some friends are happy and some are not.

One of the things which everyone seemed to mention was that it was a bit small.

I think it goes back to how eating at McDonalds is perceived in India.. it is not a inexpensive, quick trip, to stuff your stomach ( perhaps even drive through, so you can eat while driving!), as it is in the US. I think Mickey D's in India, are still a 'treat' for most people.
But seriously, no one is going to worry about the additives( sodium benzoate,glutamates,etc...) and potential for obesity etc.. when the stuff tastes so good!!I am sure the country will go full circle, and pick up obesity as a health issue, before tiring of McDonalds/ Hard Rock Cafe etc..

We in Almaty would have been excited to get McDonalds and all that imperialistic stuff. To get connected to the world's pace and pulse, otherwise it feels like living in the God forsaken place.

Personally, I enjoyed eating at McDonald's in India. Yammy.
