Vasant Vihar was the only area I looked at so far and compared to Gurgaon it struck me as green heaven. I'm therefore looking for a serviced apartment over there, however there might me a definition problem from my side: to I need to specify that I would like an independent apartment without somebody standing in my kitchen the whole time? Because that's what I was shown so far. I would like to have a place of my own and will definitely do the cooking myself (unless I'm too lazy and order in). What's a reasonable amount for such a place (let's say with two bedrooms), and are there are areas like Vasant Vihar (in terms of distance to Gurgaon and green areas)?

I have to say I'm a bit shocked from what I saw so far - dark, mouldy bedrooms for rent separately in a 3 bedroom apartment in Gurgaon which were supposed to be 7500 a night!
Coerdelion,

Someone is taking you for a ride ...
First Visit a few sites like www.99acres.com or www.indianproperty.com or anyother Indian Property Portal that should give you an idea about prices. Secondly, while Vasant Vihar is Heaven you should try to get to and from Gurgaon at Peak Hours and you will rethink your plans and your definition of heaven ..

If you are looking at a place at 225 000 Indian A Month you can take a look at Laburnam Apartments / Aralias / Central Park in GURGAON and you will get yourself a fantastic apartment for about that much in Rent.

Alternatively you can look at SOHNA road which is a bit further down the highway and YOU WILL GET A 3 BEDROOM DUPLEX VILLA for about 200 000 Per Month Indian ..

But as always its about what you want and what your budget is...

Browse Gurgaon before you focus on Delhi or the COMMUTE will kill you in no time ..

Cheers

Nikhil

Thanks a lot for your input. I think my company would pay 200.000 Rps a month if I told them I needed it, even if (coming from China) it feels very, very wrong to pay more than five times the price in an even poorer country, for a less nicer area and much worse quality than what I have in downtown Beijing!

I mean, are there no nice serviced apartments between Gurgaon and South Delhi around the 50000 Rps mark?

Or can anyone recommend an agent which will not put me in one of those rip-offs if I pay him well?

Service apartments in Gurgaon

You should find good service apartments in Gurgaon for Rs. 50,000 and great ones for the top end of your budget. The dust you are referring to is more of a seasonal smog, happens at the start of each winter.

I live in the Palms, South City 1 and on our notice board they regularly have a few listings. The Sunday newspapers would also help you. Regarding the dealers, you should have your employer talk to them ... they are simply taking you for a ride. As a matter of fact, you should have your Indian employer find you options and not do it your self. I have employee's who come from outside and I arrange options for them. If you need some help PM me your number and I will take you to see a couple of good places. BTW, I am not a dealer or have any commerical interest ..... just trying to be helpful.

Ok just to establish a few points .. while we may be a poor country ... we do have some of the most expensive real estate in the world... (density / demand and supply / Greed?? God Knows)
Dude take a look around and read a bit .. Nariman Point, Mumbai and Connaught Place New Delhi have the WORLDS MOST EXPENSIVE REALTY even higher than Tokyo... so what do you expect...

If you really want to see pretty .. why don't you rent on Prithviraj Road, Aurangzeb Road, Amrita Shergill Marg, You will love the locality and I am sure it will be better than what you had in downtown china ...

Trust me you get the bang for the buck ...

Hey, really didn't mean any offense here! I guess you're right - overheated demand must cause this surge in prices.

I'm still in the process of trying to figure out how far I want to be from Gurgaon. Both options don't sound perfect to me: commuting for at least 2 hours every day if I live in Vasant Vihar (or even more for other South Delhi places), or having a short trip to work if I decide to stay in Gurgaon, but being completely dependent on a driver even if I only want to buy some apples. I guess I'd really like to be able to walk out of my house on weekends, go for a stroll, stop somewhere for a coffee and get some groceries... but then I'm not sure if I can stand the traffic every day for six months.

Gosh, life is tough!

Hey sorry about that post too .. I was just a little angst ridden in IM (discussed in another post)

I would suggest a more thorough search in Gurgaon, The 2 hours from VV is very dependent on Peak Travel Time .. The only experience I have on this is friends and family who initially started with the commute and ended up shifting to Gurgaon sooner or later because of the commute.

There are beautiful areas in Gurgaon .. If you can afford it .. take a look at some of the farms at Ghitorni / Kapasehra .. or
as I suggested Aralias / Central Park / Laburnam / Garden Estate / Phase III / Phase I / Beverly Apartments I and II

These are beautiful places to live in Gurgaon

Hi, I am renting an apartment in Bev. Park I,
it is fully serviced but my company chips out 1.5 lacs a month for it.
However there is plenty in Gurgaon but you gotta make your peace with the city.
I got used to the dust and the noise, I guess.

To me it is a blessing. I have to go to the airport daily and I seem to have found a cure for the traffic: Long working hours!

POORER? by what measures? I've lived and travelled extensively in China and I know the ground realities. and if you feel Vasant Kunj is green than you are truly from "one of the confined developed cities of china where the residents have been prgrammed to talk like this"
If you need help, atleast be humble...Xie xie

Well, I'm sure I haven't been programmed to think anything by the Chinese because I'm not Chinese! Of course there's no universal poverty factor but if you look at gross national incomes and some other general indicators (you can find some of them here: http://www.dbresearch.com/PROD/DBR_I...000192108.pdf), the outcome is pretty clear to me. Also, a bigger percentage of Indians is living on less than a dollar per day than in China. However, if you want you can always find a way to debate World Bank and OECD figures - go ahead, I'm always glad to learn!

Concerning Vasant Kunj, I really cannot recall calling it a green area I'm just saying ANYTHING is greener than Gurgaon where the sand and dust are costantly blown from the omnipresent construction sites over the whole town.

Thanks for the input - I think you're right and am also slowly getting used to the idea of staying in Gurgaon. I had a look at quite nice serviced apartments in Essel Towers where at least I have a couple of malls within walking distance. They're managed my "Enkay Condominiums" and have a pretty nice standard, own kitchen and so on. I'll work on that peace part ;-)

Ok, thanks a lot! If it's no hassle for you, could you send me that list? My mail address is scottish.ladandlassie@gmail.co m (DON'T ask! )

And don't worry about the bargaining part - I'll just assume they're always quoting five times higher than the real price - like in China

Sooooo, I finally managed to find a place! In case anybody faces the same problem as me (wanting a full apartment, but serviced), I can (so far) recommend the company "Enkay Condominiums" who have some nice places in Gurgaon and Delhi. Most of them are 3 bed rooms or bigger but they found me a 2 bed room apartment in Essel Towers (just down the road from Sahara mall), decent furniture, full service and so on, at an ok price compared to other serviced "apartments" I had seen - which consisted only of one room and often cost around 10000Rs a night.

Anyway, now that I finally settled in it would be great to meet some other like-minded expats. Any bar nearby where they're hiding? Any place which serves a decent glass of wine and food for poor people like me who are allergic to chilis? Any other newbies who'd like to share professional experiences about starting a company here?

Let me know!

Hi everyone!

Since you seem to know your way around and have such great recommendations, could I ask for a piece of advice? I have been looking for flats and found something really amazing but I am wondering if the price is fair. It is in DLF IV at the Regency, apparently a good quality option with power supply and water back-up. The complex also has a private gym. The flat is beautifully furnished with 4 bedrooms with attached bathrooms and air conditioning. The cost is 40,000 INR per month, is it reasonable?

Coeurdelion, btw I tried a fantastic restaurant in Gurgaon: http://earthitalianlounge.com/ food and ambiance are both great! Shall we meet there at some point this week?

Many thanks for your feedback!
