Flatshare in Delhi - any expats looking for a new flatmate?
Calling all Delhi expats!
I am a 31 year old female from the UK. I have recently moved here and am working over in West Delhi as a special educator for disabled children. Unfortunately my salary isn't very much and so I am hoping to find a furnished room in a flatshare for about 8,000Rs/mth, preferably less. Where are most of the expats based? South Delhi? How can I best find other expats who might have a room available in their flat or who might be wanting to start a new flatshare? Alternatively, maybe there are some expats reading this who are looking for a new flatmate or have a new flatshare? If so, please respond! Due to my work location, it would be preferable for me to be as near to a metro station as possible. Either West or Southwest (if South is where all expat scene is?). Chanakyapuri, Karol Bargh, maybe even Visant Vihar, etc. ... Any advice or help much appreciated! ![]() |

First of all congratulations on your new job. It is very heartening to see people coming from different countries to work with disabled children. Most of the expats stay in South Delhi in GK-1, GK-II, Defence Colony, Vasant Vihar and East of Kailash area. Problem with South Delhi is that the rents are too expensive and even if you want to share a 2 bedroom apartment with someone it will cost you at least 10k rupees. I have couple of expat friends and will ask them if they know of some vacant place. Cheers, Harsha |

Hello Mohawk and welcome to India Mike!
One time we used to have Classified Ads where some of your post could go (in relation to looking for a flat share) - however, we no longer run these as there were open to advertising and commercial activity which is strictly forbidden on this Forum. We also no longer carry posts in relation to accommodation or flat sharing for the same reasons. However you have asked for 'where are ex-pats' as well so we will concentrate on that aspect of your question. Some suggestions for you - contact your High Commission in Delhi, they may have an ex-pat social group where you can get to know people who may help you. I know quite a number of these High Commissions do have such a group. Get in touch with the Delhi Network (there is a website if you do a google - sorry I have a slow connection and haven't time to find it presently!) which is an organisation for ex-pats working in Delhi. There is also a Delhi Expat website which you can look for via google. Mod Note:If anyone replies advertising their own accommodation this thread will be closed.

Paschim Vihar (West Delhi)
For this rent, you should seriously consider Paschim Vihar in West Delhi. The metro is close by in Rajouri Garden, and coming to Paschim Vihar in this year itself.
It's going to get you a very decent apartment in a well maintained and educated neighborhood. It is close to very posh localities of Punjabi Bagh and Rajouri Garden as well. Consider it seriously! |

Thanks everyone for all the speedy feedback!!
Delexpat - Rajouri Garden sounds good, but I don't know how to find other foreigners there who are looking to flatshare - any ideas? Harsha - thanks for your kind words! I also really appreciate it if you could ask your expat friends to see if they have any info or advice or if they know of anyone that has a spare room in their flatshare. Aishah - I have looked up the links you have mentioned and contacted the Delhi Network team, so will keep you posted to see what happens - thanks! |

Another thought too is that ex-pats don't all necessarily live in South Delhi - I know a few who are in other areas as well, including Noida, Gurgaon, and West and East Delhi.

yeah.. true.. there are mannyyy expats staying in Dwarka, Janak Puri, Patel Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Rajender Nagar, etc. in west Delhi. probably because of their proximity to airport/gurgaon OR Connaught Place (in case of Patel Nagar, Rajender Nagar) and because of many malls and shopping, dining options (Rajouri Garden, Janak Puri)
You should try that as well. |

Dwarka?
Hey good morning,
Have u already found something? I - female European working for an Indian company in Gurgaon - have been living in Dwarka for a year now. I think it is cheap, as well as well connected thanks to Metro and auto rikshaws. Let me know if u are also looking for a flatmate - I am considering to move out of my shared apartment there. cheers! |

If your job is situated in West Delhi, I would seriously recommend you to stay in Dwarka. You should coordinate with the lady above and it'll be good for you both.
For any other assistance, feel free to get in touch with me. thanks! |
