Good Morning,

Well, I need some suggestions on this one. I have a cable connection which costs me 200 INR per month. I get about 100 channels on the TV but the quality is not really appreciable.

I have come across tata sky, airtel tv, dish tv etc which provide good quality tv and come up with different packages.
Can somebody rate which one is the best keeping in view the customer care, consumer satisfaction and price or any particular service? I am in delhi and prefer only hindi/english channels on the tv.

Thanks
Napster

tata sky with the mega pack option.... everything included... all channels, movies everything... . And every new channel is added to the pack automatically. No extra charge.

Never had a problem with their service. Queries to CC are always addressed promptly (the CC Phone numbers are toll numbers though )

I liked Airtel, the picture quality, that is. For the rest is was a case of 57 channels and nothing on so we ditched it (and they hounded me for weeks on my mobile trying to get me to recharge and come back).

tatasky is on MPEG2 Compression whereas the whole crop of late entrants are on MPEG4. They advertise is as being better but it isn't really. Think of it as Standard DVD against a Divx rip you download off of the internet. In scenes where you have a lot of action you will see defects in the images, at-least in the downloaded Divx copies. Haven't really seen Reliance or Airtel so cant comment on their actual quality.

Tata Sky Plus (Sky+?) - digital video recording... has to be the best thing ever being able to zip through the advertisements when you have recorded programmes! Plus you don't have to stay awake til all hours to see programmes on at 11:00pm at night.

It is a bit expensive at something like 5,500 rupees for the full pack for a year but worth every rupee!

Without doubt, Tata Sky. Though I prefer their regular set top box.The DVR box is rather slow when it comes to flipping channels.

I prefer Tata Sky.
If possible then try other options beside DTH.
I am using a service of BSNL people giving TV on their phone line. I am impressed by the quality and can assure you that the quality is better and it is cheaper then DTH.
Just give it a shot if the service is in your area.

wow...every single reply says "tata sky". I was checking out the website of tata sky. It has tata sky and tata sky plus. The only different between the 2 is their initial investment to buy the set top box. The packages are same I guess.
ANy other difference between the two? Secondly, has anyone bought the box from some electronic store and not from tata sky as I am sure it would be cheap outside. I was thinking to buy the box from outside and then install tata sky over it.

@prisonspy..I put up in delhi. I don't get BSNL in the area. Is it the same for MTNL as well?

Tata Sky Plus is the digital video recorder service, tata sky is the regular set top box. I have both, find the former too slow when it comes to flipping channels, though it is a lifesaver for a couch potatoes I guess

Its available on 'Love' on BIG CBS. Currently the DTH providers who carry the channel are, Reliance Big TV,Videocon and airtel I think. Awaiting eagerly for Tata Sky to carry it!
