Delhi Apartment Rental - 1BR, but decent
I am considering moving to Delhi for several months. Therefore I am thinking about renting an apartment. One-bedroom or a suite will be enough for my needs. But I absolutely need two things:
1) Location. It should be located in the safest possible location, preferably where many foreigners live and it should rather be a newly built western-style building that a typical Indian house. Preferably a large and tall building, not a smallish house with separate entrance. Preferably surrounded with a fence so nobody could enter without a pass or invitation. and 2) It should be fully equipped, including washing machine, ACs, real fast broadband (so that I could re-route my phone to India), hot water and electricity back-up (if needed). The above-described dream apartment must have basic amenities nearby, like supermarket. I want it to be conveniently located i.e. so I could get out and find myself surrounded by beatiful scenery, not some shopping and hotel area. I very much like Delhi's business districts by the way. So, my question is what the monthly rentals will be and where to look. I emailed a rental broker, but the problem is that he doesn't have pictures and I dont understand where the apartment will be. He said 1BR flat at the Defence Colony would be USD500. Any feedback wellcome. |

Well, the budget is unlimited, but no sense to pay more for extra rooms, because I only need one room total, just for some reason real estate-related websites don't list studios so I assumed there is no such thing as a studio in Delhi. So, yes I can pay more BUT for $1000 I can rent apartment in Moscow, for $1500 in Hong Kong and for more - in Tokyo. There is not sense to be paying that money in Delhi, otherwise it becomes economically pointless. Therefore, maybe $500-$700 but I really want some advice on what I could get for what amount of money.

Now I understand why it is said that in Goa there is Indian price, then European price just a little more than Indian price, American price is the double, and Russian price the quadruple...

Just to give you an idea :-
http://www.magicbricks.com/property/...t/1599206.html Thats slightly less than 600 USD and this is in Defence colony as well. Tell your broker to try and send you some pictures, dont agree on anything till you see something. A washing machine + a borad band connection might not be readily available, reason being that the landlord would have to pay for the connection even while it is not in use and broadband habits/requirements can differ - but getting one is not a problem at all esp in Def Col. A washing machine is well to be honest many households still get their clothes handwashed so it might be there or it might not. Where will you be working...that might be a good starting point to zoom in on some areas. |

the only problem I can see is that looking for a property that comes with AC, surge protectors, and power backup will narrow the options down. To have it fully furnished will make it even more so. The "serviced apartment" type market is pretty small here - mostly because I guess companies have gotten used to fitting out a place with their own kit once they lease a property. That's not to say they don't exist - but it just means it might not be that handy to supermarkets, parks, stuff like that.
