a relocation? got a job offer in Delhi- have 2 kids

hiya
my DH got a job offer both in bangalore and delhi but the delhi's offer is much more well pay so we're thinking of it (even that the climate in Bangalore are better...).
so he'll get pay 160K and get paid for accomodation, so it's good!
we're looking for a house, appartement up to 45K, and we have 2 kids: 1 year and 3 year, where is the best location? we would like something near parks and play area.
another question is that we saw in Bangalore an appartement with pool, bbq, gym facsilities, anything like that in Delhi?
can someone reckon on a good day care? and what's the fee?
plus i'm looking for a play group for a 1 year...
what about a nanny, cook and cleaner? someone that'll come a few hours a day? can we affort it?
so many questoins, i know... sorry!

Vasant Vihar is a good area with a mix of affluent locals and expats...

Welcome to IndiaMike.

Have just replied to another thread on the same subject, so rather than write it out again - here's a link to the post.

re day care - depends of course on where you're located. There are plenty of day care centres around, but as you might expect the more popular ones tend to be full (with waiting list in some cases).

Good luck.

Hiya
Thank you for all the info, it's a real help.
I think dwarka is too far from what we're looking for.
as I have never been in India, could I walk with the buggy to the day care or I'll have to use the driver? as I love walking...
anybody can help me with the day care searching? as I really would like to live near it or near a play area.
any things like it in India or all the parks is full with homless people?
again, it's just what people told me, I have no idea if it's true or not...
Thank you, Y
Yaya.

Relocation to Delhi

Hi Yaya,

I can give a few references of domestic help, mostly referred by existing or leaving expats. Write to me if you want and I shall forward the contacts.

Have a Good Day

Raghu

that will all depend on where you end up living and what day care you choose - so impossible to answer really. Keep in mind though that even if your daycare is close to where you live - in summer its going to be hot (currently 41 degrees outside in the sun - and its not summer yet). During those days you will crave the comfort and coolness an air-conditioned car will provide.

unfortunately it looks like a bit of a chicken and egg argument - will you choose your accommodation based on the availability of a daycare - or vice versa? Given how much the selection of a day care is dependent on personal choice is there any chance you might be able to do a quick recon trip to Delhi?

Yaya.
actually the parks here in Delhi are lovely. Nehru park or Lodi Gardens for example are very popular - and no need to worry about homeless people!

To add to Brownboy's excellent advice:

This is a major move for you. Why not check out things before you make such a major transition?

India can be disconcerting to say the least! And given your comment about 'homeless people', I would say you are in for a bit of a culture shock.
Don't want to discourage you, but do think about a week long visit to Delhi, just to explore.

Provided you opt for the HRA and go for a personal lease. If it's CLA, the entire Rs. 200,000 is generally foregone even if the rent is lower than that - check with the company.

India isn't great for walking, even in Vasant Vihar which is a pretty upmarket area the footways are cracked and broken, and of course there's the usual footway problem of cars being parked, drain covers being missing, stalls being set up, autos being repaired, people setting up shacks to live in...

When I walk in Vasant Vihar (my partner lives there) I walk on the road. It has marginally fewer holes.

Well, homeless people and slum dwellers are everywhere in India, even a nice area like Vasant Vihar has its slum dwellings. It's no big deal though, I was invited back to one of the shacks in VV by an elderly lady and I was instantly surrounded by friendly people.

Question

Hi Yaya,

If your husband's company is going to take a lease for your housing then you can use the full amount and go for a palatial place. On the other hand if they are going to offer you the amount in hand and ask you to choose your accommodation, then as some one said you can get a decent apartment for 1 lakh and pocket the balance 1 Lakh.

Do you any agents reference to show you residential properties ?

Raghu
