I think for what you want her to do, on a daily basis, around 1500 - 2000 rupees would be more than enough. I have just employed a woman to sweep and wash my floors every 2nd day - I offered her600 rupees but Mr k was more than generous and it is now 700 rupees a month. 6,000 rupees is a ridiculous amount - this is what a truck driver working 24 hours with 3 days off in a month, might get.
When I was in the mountains I had a lady to do the floors only twice a week and she would be there less than one hour. I gave her 400 rupees for the month.

well, the lady who sweeps our floors, washed the verandah, 7 days a week, gets Rs.450 a month. And the area is much larger than a 3 bedroom flat, and its an open house, hence more dust.

Last time I had a girl who came in every day, washed dishes, dusted, cleaned the floor and did my laundry. I paid her 800 Rs a month for this.

This time I had a girl who came on Sundays to do laundry. I paid 300 Rs a month for it.

Hope this helps some.

I am so out of touch --- thanks to marriage

But the woman who comes and sweeps and cleans our garden every day, washes clothes that don't go in the machine (which seems to be most of them ), washes any dishes from the day before, and sweeps and mops the house a couple or three times a week (not very well) and err...

(I'm not only out of touch because of marriage but because nearly all of this happens before I even wake up )

...I think get 1000 or 1500, with, as others have said, extra for extra things done.

Ironing, by the way, is usually sent out to an ironing person.

I think our living quarters would be larger, Shashank - there are a total of 6 rooms to sweep and wash floors. Still, she's only coming every 2nd day...oh well, Mr K's happy with that amount so I won't quibble! we are pretty dusty too - you can imagine after a sandstorm, not the best.

Ya Aishah, very true....however rates in Jaisalmer and Delhi would differ a lot. However my house gets sweeped and mopped 7 days a week.

4 rooms (one large room, around 600 sq feet), Verandah gets washed daily (Its again around 1000 sq. feet). So Rs.450 sounds like peanuts compared to what others are paying.

I think its the fact that the help available in Def Col atleast has got a bit 'high headed' thanks to the foreign population paying them what it is..

And then ofcourse there is the DEMAND Vs SUPPLY equation as well..

It does indeed, Shashank!('Peanuts') The lady I have is also doing several rooms in a building nearby (which is how we have come to get her) and that is daily. For this she gets 1800 rupees per month. It's living quarters and some office as well there. she spends much of the day there - I think she also does some cooking and washing.
