What breed of dog would you recommend for a pet?
Part of the deal that was made was that we will get a pet dog for our son/hubby when we move to Chennai and I am looking for pet owners to give me suggestions.
I know that I DONT want a dog that sheds hair (alsatians) or barks incessently like the pomeranians or large dogs like a doberman......something that I can handle; after the love wears out, hubby and son will drop all responsibility on moi who never wanted a dog in the first place I'm hoping that my love for all creatures will turn into unconditional love for the pet ![]() Thank you in advance for your suggestions. |

Try a Rhodesian Ridgeback... have a look around the info on the internet on them and see whether it is the breed for you. If it is, you won't regret your choice!

How bizarre that you would suggest this breed, I was thinking of a Mudhol Hound as my first choice...only thought that it might be too "big" if we end living in an apartment?

I've heard a Bichon Frise is a good, medium sized dog that doesn't shed (it has long hair which doesn't fall out) & don't bark as much as other small dogs. In fact, I am thinking of getting one myself.
Google "good dog for apartment". You'll find lots of interesting articles that way for which dogs can handle being inside-dogs & different attributes. Hmmm... the hounds looks really cool, but as a working dog it'll wants lots of activity and space to run. and it doesn't sound particularly "pack" oriented -- doesn't like petting, unfriendly to strangers and not particularly attached to it's people. Not a good thing for a family dog. Last edited by *jyoti* : Oct 23rd, 2009 at 01:29. Reason: more info |

If you live in an apt go for a Shih Tsu.

In my opinion, the white labrador can be a ideal choice. Given its clean body, Good Looks, Obedience and Children friendly. You dont want a dog thats constantly barking and shed hairs and the Lab would not only meet that criteria but would sure would be a darling of the house.
Check out the below links for photos and also some info about the labrador. http://www.susanalabradors.com/image...s_yellow_3.jpg http://www.flashpuzzlezone.com/dog-p...erpuppy&id=185 http://www.buzzle.com/articles/getti...rador-dog.html Cheers, Raghu Quote:

Beagles don't bark. They howl! Adorable but dumber than rocks! :P
And labs certainly do shed. My brother's yellow lab leaves stiff little white hairs all over the house, which weave themselves into anything fabric. aargh! She is a dear, though, and labs are great family dogs. |

hey - that was the requirement, no? no hair, no bark!
beagles aint dumb - they just dont want to exercise their intelligence, thats what humans are for the beagles i've met - not much of howlers either must be the weather and/or her diet of daal rice!:brishti look at 'em eyes federica - that expression stays till death do them apart! am sure birds will be along and give away one of her strays to tahiti ![]() |

Beagles are healthy and intelligent dogs, and soooo sweet! I'd still suggest to adopt a stray, there are so many nice dogs in India! |
