Western Classical piano teachers in Chennai?

We may be moving to Chennai this summer for an expat assigmment. We currently reside in USA. We have a 14 year old, who wants to continue his piano lessons in Chennai. Does anyone know of good western classical piano teachers in Chennai? My son plays at the intermediate level, and is looking for a teacher who help him advance his piano skills. Any advice on where to start looking for a western classical piano teacher in Chennai, will be much appreciated!

You'd find Western qualified teachers/players, i.e. even performing artists, in Auroville. You can place an ad in the Auroville News, once you are in Chennai.

http://www.auroville.org/journals&me...ews/avnews.htm

It would be worth it since there are some great performers living in the area, one also in the Aurobindo Ashram in Pondy.

I'm sure there are teachers in Chennai!

It would seem a shame to have to travel 3 hours to one's music class

Good find!

And I don't know why it didn't occur to any of us before to suggest asking around the musical instrument shops

Depends what kind of teachers you get in Chennai, and whether they teach on the level this boy is at.

I just keep mentioning my two cents (or less) worth for completeness' sake. Could be it helps someone else on their search later.

I'm not complaining. Just that some people might get the idea that Auroville/Pondicherry is sort-of close to Chennai.

Of course, compared to a lot of other places, it is!

Eh? Carnatic classical music may not be to everyone's taste, but it is certainly proper music, and Chennai is positively seething with it!

I wonder if you had any success finding a teacher. There is a possibility that I will be in Chennai around the turn of the year to see if Chennai and I are a good fit for each other. If we are I may relocate there, to establish a piano teaching practice and work as a musician. It seems there are many potential students but very few teachers in India. Let us know if your search bore fruit!

Agree with edwinsantiago

Both the Royal College of Music and Trinity college conduct exams in India.
