This is true as they hardly seem to fly about much and mostly cluster on the hive. Apparently, even if they are disturbed and move in a swarm, they will not sting anyone who is not directly in the swarm path. Not that I have experimented with this, but I find that they are peaceful and I do not want to remove the hive even though everyone advises me to do so. I am in fact, quite fond of them, they are now my little pet bees.

I suppose if the hive is just outside a window, that would cause some problems!
---my little pet bees----- ha i would like to see you say that about the bees i deal with here in south florida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Africanized_bee). The bees in bombay must real sweethearts, which is good to know.

as far as the wasps are concerned, spray the nest with the strongest insecticide you can find, the fire thing won't work, if some are missed, they will seek revenge for the death of their 'aunties'.

Actually the fire thing does work and here in India that is the commonest method of dealing with wasp nests. A few weeks ago we had a wasp nest grow on us almost overnight on our construction site. The labourers took an old rag doused in k-oil lit it and placed it under the nest - the smoke got all the wasps to leave the nest. They then knocked it out. We didn't get any revenge seeking wasps looking for us to sting. They simply decamped and made a new nest in a pine tree a few dozen meters from our place.

If you do it, whatever you decide to, at night the bees/wasps go dormant and will not come out looking to sting you. I have sprayed many a wasp nests at night here in CA and never had a problem. I used a bee/wasp spray out of a can that could spray up to 20 feet. You may not get that spray in India.

We get HIT a multi insect killer that works fine for the wasps here. Don;t know the strike range but it does travel a long way.

wow

That's big. I'm on the 2nd floor and cuz the windows only open out part way, there is not even good access to spray the nest from inside. Hard to explain.

The water trap I made (was on some US univ. website) hasn't attracted one wasp.

My first suggestion would be, if you ask ur guard of house/apartment to talk to mornig sweepers who come to keep your area clean. I am basically speaking of "Neel metal fanalca" guys. they would be experienced enough to handle your case.

But since in your original post you asked for a pest control company.
Please find below a pest control company in adyar. i am not sure if they would remove wasp nest. I have no experience with them but had called them up once when there was rat infestation at my house but couldn't utilise their services as i had Dogs at my place! best of luck!

I'm also 2nd floor. Difficult to lean across the worktop and place something down on the ledge. I tried mosquito coils but it didn't upset them much. Then I tried charcoal with dhoop but I couldn't get the charcoal going. (Easy in a tandoor). Last resort, good old Baygone. I closed one window, held the other with my left hand and blasted. They moved really quickly. I moved faster. Gave me a right old scare. They needed a few blasts through the day and started to form higher up the building but I was just able to give them another taste of Baygone from a balcony and they gave up.

Gone?

Not one went in the trap I made, and then they just left before I had time to organize a plan of attack. Had someone spray the area afterwards, which I hope will keep them away.

Did you do that riding into town on a horse with your gun, and that music in the background thing?

You somehow found how to make them unwelcome: sounds like a marketable skill!

And guess what I just observed? The bees do not go away even during heavy rains, of course there have barely been two spells of heavy rainfall in Mumbai so far but my bees are still around.

Entirely off-topic, but I managed to step onto a wasp just the other day. First time I got stung since age 10 or so.

Dang @$& I'd forgotten how that hurts; could barely walk for the first two hours or so, took a full day to completely reside. Dabbing on vinegar like I'd remembered didn't seem to help much either.

So, er, what can I say; except I sympathize with any allergy sufferers I guess, can't imagine what that must be like. And I'd certainly get in some pros to take care of it should they return, yes.
